Bullet-proofing Mach 460?

Bullet-proofing Mach 460?
For the most part I'm very satisfied with the Mach 460 system in my 2001 GT, but unfortunately it doesn't provide enough bass for me at higher volumes. I want to get a small subwoofer for the trunk and put "bass blockers" on the 4 door speakers so that I can turn it way up and still have great bass without worrying about blowing the stock speakers. I've always been against putting subwoofers in cars for several reasons (they're huge, ugly, heavy, obnoxious, etc.) but I've come to the realization that it's the only way to get bass out of my system at higher volumes.
So my questions are
What subwoofer would you recommend? I'd prefer 10" for space reasons but I also want something that's more than I need so that I never have to worry that I'm pushing it too hard.
How can I get a line-level signal out of the stock headunit?
Thanks for all of your help!

I have a 15" Kicker Solobaric in my basement, but it's waaaay to big for me. I think I'm going to go with either a 10 or 12 inch Alpine Type R, now I need your help deciding on an amp. Which one of these three would you recommend?
Alpine MRP-M450
Infinity 761W
Rockford Fosgate Punch 1800W
Thanks again for all of your help.
