Mach 460 Stereo Questions
I have owned over 40 cars (half of them bought new) and I have to say the sound quality of the 460 system in my 01 gt convert is very dissapointing. I'm usually always satisfied with the factory systems in my cars and have never found any need to upgrade speakers or systems. My car has very little bass,I turn the bass all the way up and the treble half way and it still isn't up to par. I was wondering if Ford tunes the converts differently so people don't blow there speakers when they are driving with top down and volume cranked up? I have never been able to compare my car to another 01 convert but I have heard the system in a coupe and it sounded much better. I can hear the amp come on a half second after the radio power is turned on and the system has never had any water damage ( vehicle not driven in rain or snow) I don't want to buy aftermarket parts such as amps or tuner's

I may be horribly mistaken but i thought the verts had some new fangled speed-volume control, in which the volume would continue to rise as you drove faster... but maybe i made that up in my little head, i dont have the stock speakers in the rear deck, but i love the ones i have (alpine)

The 460 has the speed volume control but it is pretty much useless. Works half of the time. It could be that you just have different acoustics in your vert. I do know the 460 is the same in the verts as in the coupes.

I have an 03 vert and never even noticed the volume speed control. Very good to know. My girlfriend has an 03 jetta and you notice the volume change big time. You might want to have someone look at the amps to see if there is a problem. I notice the sound isn't quite as good as in a coupe, but its not nearly as bad as your talking about. The problem I have sometimes are cd's getting stuck in the in-dash 6 disc cd player. But I would get it checked out.

I don't believe the car has the speed control volume. My friends suburban has the speed control volume and it works good. My stereo doesnt have distortion and it doesnt matter if I play cd's or local fm stations,it just lacks the bass that other cars have. I'm not a teenager who is looking for some big whopping subwoofer bass, just enough bass control where I didn't even have to have it all the way up. My 04 expedition and other fords I have owned I have had to adjust the bass and treble oppisite of the mustang ( treble all the way up,bass slightly past half way up)

What I would do is fade to each individual speaker and see if the amount of low frequencys that you hear changes or if it is the same for all of them. If its the same you might have a amp problem or a signal not getting to the sub amps.

Adjusting the fader and side to side didn't seem to change the quality of the bass sound much. I would like to try a different amp or have mine tested but I hate to go to the dealer and spend hundreds of dollars for diagnose and repairing if there is a problem, perhaps after car is out of storage I can bring it to a reputable stereo shop for a oppinion. I was just curious if any of you knew any differences between the convert vs coupe systems other than obvious acoustics between the 2 different body styles. Thanks for all your inputs.

I always found the 460 to sound great in my 03 Coupe. and before I had a Chevy S10 with a 10" sub, upgraded head unit and speakers pushing 500 watts total.
I don't listen to much bass music anymore (mainly classic rock) but the mids/highs on this system blow my old one away.

I don't doubt any of you that your mach systems sound great. I just think that either A. THATS THE WAY THE CONVERT IS SUPPOSED TO SOUND or B. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH MINE. I keep looking for a loudness button to push to expand my sound and volume but there is none. Thanks again for all your inputs

Thanks for the info, perhaps I should of read that little book that is in the glove box. I will try this when I pull it out of storage in a few months. That would be great if for some reason it was muted down and I could adjust it!
