cool sub idea
my uncle and i got an idea.....instead of putting a box for my subs in my trunk and instead of building a RSD to use them...were gonna bolt a piece of particle board behind my rear seat.....with enuf room for the front of the subs to function....that allows my whole trunk to be a box....has anyone ever tried this in a stang? and what do you guys think...if i dont like it then out it goes...

The sub needs to be in a sealed or ported enclosure.
Can it be pulled off? maybe. Subwoofers run best with a specific sized box, size depending on the sub.
as far as ported, the port is actually a hemholtz radiator, think of blowing across a bottle, well, ported subs to the same thing, the port creates a tone an octive lower than the speaker will naturally get, that is why people love ported boxes.
The trunk does not have any seals, air flows in and out, and the trunk is already pretty big. There really is no way to tune the air leaking to match the drivers.
If you do it the way yer talking about, trust me, it will sound like ****.
Better idea, get a rear seat delete kit, build a box on the back of the delete and use the face of the delete as a baffle.
That way instead of rear seats you can have dual 12's facing forward. you will still have an encosure, and some trunk space.
Also, keep in mind, sealed subswoofers always sound better than ported, the port(hemholtz) is really just a low octave fart, in many applications it works well and boosts the db levels of a certain octave and gives a hell of a punch.
Sealed subs are not as loud, but do offer a more linear signal.
Its all in what you preffer, if you listen to a lot of rap and techno, go ported. If yer all about bbking and **** like that, go sealed.

OK my advice to you is... if you don't know what your doing... don't do it. Everybody and there moma "can build a box" - seldom few actually get it right- and make sure you use 5/8 MDF particle board if you do it - and liquid nail the inside and outside joints.

i got an idea when i was putting leather seats in. do a rear seat delete, and put the subs in the bottom part. there is a good deal of room where the bottom of the seat goes, and im sure you could fit two subs there and put the amp inbetween them or on the back part

Being in South Fl during the late 80's alot were doing that with the trunk and subs. Bass was the music that was happening down here and if you didnt have at least 2 12s you were lame. If you are the adventurous type give it a try and see how it sounds should be fairly easy to cut two holes for subs on a piece of MDF. It would be interesting to see how it sounds. I know the old Cutless,Regals etc they would put 15s in there and use trunk as a box. I have never been in a car with that setup but they did sound loud on the outside.

it was just a quick chop to show my idea. i wouldnt use those subs or amp. i just used them cause they were somewhat the right angle. id probably use that huge long audiobahn amp with the flames on it. cause it would be big enough to look really good there.
