Default poorboys supercharger

saw this and laughed

http://www.scribd.com/doc/2426845/El...ger-air-intake

i guess it could do some good, better than just a cold air intake alone. but you still would get laughed at by any serious car guy.

Hey, if it adds boost and you can add more fuel, who cares how you do it?

These have been around for a while now, not sure how long but a few years for sure. I seen one for a civic I had around 3 years ago. Its a cool idea tho.

im suprised nobody has created a real high powered electric supercharger... the idea is pretty sound, you would probably need to beef the electrical system, but it shuold be efficient as hell, superchargers are not very effecient, it bogs you down 75-100HP to spin the fan, but boosts you up 175-200 to make up for it.

if it was electric, it would be far more efficient.

There is one but it has been questioned many times. http://www.turbomagazine.com/tech/04...ger/index.html

If would be interesting to dyno one of these on a stang. Just think....boost only when you want it, but you need to find a way to add fuel properly.

I've seen true electric superchargers before. It's a neat idea, but you have to run a ton of batteries to make it work. And you can only do it in short bursts, because the batteries drain so fast.

My friend had one of these on his Plymouth Breeze. It actually worked a little, quite the noticeable difference. Huge sound difference, and rpm's from mid/low to mid/high had a slightly noticeable torque increase. No changes to fuel delivery.

On the downside, his car did not have a MAF sensor. So a few months later, the engine went ca-put. The engine was probably running extra lean, and he had very low oil pressure.

Maybe if these things ran at a much higher rpm to create some significant boost, they would be useful.

It was an ok idea but still requires a lot and doesn't give much back for it.

there was a video of guys on a dyno with a leaf blower making hp gains and thats not even a closed system so there is some truth to it

if you can generate positive manifold pressure then yeah you'll make more power but the power required to run a compressor to any useful boost value is quite high. On average you'll need 55-65hp of input energy into the compressor to run 8psi on a stock head/cam car like our SOHC 4.6's and 5.4's. If you want more air it'll take more power to the compressor. Figure around 90hp for the compressor to net out 1 atmosphere of positive manifold pressure. You know how big a 90hp electric motor is?

Also the weight of the batteries to run it properly. A system that could create 1 atmosphere of boost would weigh more than any existing power adder and approach the price of a traditional supercharger kit. I have also never seen any proof of substantial power gains for anything over a few seconds. It's a cool idea but the technology just doesn't support it yet. It may be more practical with the advance in electric motors and batteries in the future though. Maybe we will see electric superchargers on the secondary motors of our electric/gas hybrids

Well someone finally put one on a dyno http://videos.streetfire.net/video/L...-Dyno_7514.htm

I love the method they used to inject nitrous too

Its a bunch of crap. They can't push enough air to actually make boost.

^ Because half of them can't spin the fan fast enough to give you the air you need at high rpms lol!

some day technology will advance enough and there will be a working electric S/C.
