Default Will Venom 1000 work with a supercharger?

Hi guys I was wondering if one could use the Venom 1000 system if one had a mongoose supercharging system already installed I hate to sound dumb but is this possible and is it safe for the engine?

In general with nitrous and another power adder, it can be done, but it complicates things quite a bit. If you are using nitrous simply to drop the intake temp a bit and prevent detonation say with a 25 shot, that is pretty simple. But, if you are planning on a normal shot of nitrous, you REALLY need to know what you are doing. The tune had better be right or you are in trouble. Also, the motor needs to be able to take the added hp which is already most likely pegged with the blower. You are probably better off increasing the compression with a pulley swap then adding another dimension with nitrous.

Now, as far as specifically using a Venom kit with a blower keep in mind that the Venom will take over control of your fuel injecotrs while spraying to drive the a/f. I am not sure if this is a good combo. With a blower I think it would be better to have one computer controlling everything such as with the proper tune.

i would use a base kit from nitrous works or nx or nos instead of the venom kit because like he said I belive it adds fuel through your injectors which would cause havoc on your a/f ratio with the blower.

So how hard is it to install the venom kit? Does it come with a computer with it? for the fuel/air mix?

Comes with everything you need except bolts to mount the bottle bracket. Be sure to read my other thread dedicated to the system.

I would say you can install it in about 3 - 4 hours...even less if you are good. If I had to do it again, I could do it in probably two hours. Much of the time is taken because you are thinking how you want to run things and lay things out.

If you decide to buy one, I can let you know a few tricks that I used that would shave off some time.

I will be ordering it wed. I hope MT keeps it in stock. But as far as the boost goes will the computer module that comes with be good enough to just run my car with a stock program with the crappy tuner I have?

I am pretty sure they are in stock.

I am not sure if I understand your question, but I will take a stab at it.

When running nitrous, you do NOT want to have your timing advanced. You need to have your timing kept at stock or retarded. The whole point of doing this is to prevent pre-ignition. There are other factors too that affect pre-ignition which include octane of fuel and temperature.

I have been running a 100 shot from the Venom with my stock tune and it has been working fine...no knock or ping under load, but it is also 40 degrees outside. I probably would not try this if it were 85.

I used to have an SCT tuner with a nitrous tune that would retard my timing a degree, but I am trading it for a Flip Chip and I am waiting for it to arrive.

It is safer to retard the timing if you want to run the 100 shot, but I am the only one I know with the Venom that does this. If you want to be safe, you may want to run with the 75 shot until you can retard your timing. And always, listed for knock. Use high octane and a bottle of octane boost never hurts when spraying especially if you need to keep your timing stock.

so timing will not be an issue as long as I stay around 75 shot. Cool. Now do I need colder spark plugs as well. If so which ones are a good suggestion for my set up?

Remember, the key is to prevent detonation. Colder plugs are just another tool to help prevent detonation. Go one step colder copper plugs and gap at 0.35. The tighter gap will help prevent the spray from blowing out the spark. You may have some issues with cold start on a cold day if the car is not garaged especially. If cold start becomes a problem, use stock heat range as you probably won't be spraying in the winter much anyway.

I use Autolite 103's.

Back to Blue Thunder, if you are really serious about using nitrous and a blower, then take the 4 grand that you have and go ahead and buy a new shortblock. With the mongoose kit, you are looking at about 400 rwhp already, more than enough for a 16 or 17 year old ( I know from personal experience as Im 17) Tim has done many cars with double power adders, but they all have built motors from him as well. If it were me, and this may be in my distant future, buy the supercharger kit, drive it on a safe ( 360-380 hp) tune for about a year until you save up another 3 grand and get him to install a forged shortblock. With this, you wont even miss the nitrous you can run so much more power. Just another word of advice from a kid who has no experience, but has read this stuff over and over since I was 14. Good luck again man. Oh and I once read something that went along the lines as, "Dont take advice about a supercharger from a person who has never owned one..." So take it for what its worth. Good luck.
Matt
