Car insurance with a supercharger
Anyone here have any trouble getting insurance after they installed an aftermarket supercharger? Do they know you installed it? I need some info on this. I just want to know should something happen will my car be covered with the supercharger. I currently have Geico.

i didnt even bother telling my insurance company.
i figure everything but the blower will be covered. my mom got t-boned by a car on the passenger side...i thought my intercooler and powerpipe would of been toast but nothing was damaged thankfully. my intercooler was 1500 alone. if the car gets totaled than i will just buy it back...thats my plan

From what I've been readin they may be able to deny coverage because of the supercharger.
The other problem is that I put in for added coverage because of all the mods I have in the car and I included the supercharger and Geico told me they would not be able to cover a car with a supercharger. Now I've got this lady from thier underwriting department calling to see if I've already installed it and all this stuff. Anybody on here have a supercharger installed on thier car and have disclosed it to thier insurance company without a hitch?

I do know for a fact you need to report it, my state farm agent is really good and told me they won't insure aftermarket upgrades unless you report them. She didn't say whether certain upgrades were not covered though, just that there is 0 coverage on non reported items. When I reported my upgrades they didn't ask which upgrades I had, just how much I spent on them, but this was awhile back on a different car.

I have state farm and when I wrecked my car they replaced my aftermarket rims, and all my decals, they found out I had a super charger and did nothing, my intercooler was damaged a little but nothing major that hurt the performance of it. They were going to replace it for me, but it was going to be 1500 for an intercooler alone and the car was already about 70% totaled so I didn't want to take the chance of it being a total loss incase some other **** came up that needed to be replaced.

Looks like I'll be switching companies. Geico told me they wont cover a car that is supercharged but offered to have one of thier sister companies quote it for me. In the mean time I got all my vehicles quoted including the mustang with Progressive and I can get the same coverage including the supercharger for around $20.00 less than I pay now. Progressive just wants to know if the customization is permanent, bolted-on, and what its worth. They dont even ask what it is. Go figure. I've been with Geico for 5 years now with absolutley no cost to them. Sad.

Lol that's great. They did the same thing to me on the Cobra, when they saw the Kenne Bell the lady was just like "That's a really shiny engine...." LOL!! I love how people who nothing about cars come out to quote your policy.

As for informing them, I would if it were a supercharger. Nitrous? Probably not, as they would probably never notice it. I would however take the bottle out of the trunk. LOL Not informing them gives them more power than they already have, to possibly deny a claim. Giving them an "easy way out" is not very assuring.

I had progressive right before I switched to Geico and had absolutley no issues. I hit 2 deer while with them, both instances caused 8k in damage, and it was hassle free. So I am comfortable switching back to them, but thanks for all the advise. The thing is I need to find someone to insure it being aware of the supercharger so I don't ever have an issue with coverage should something happen.

Call one of the higher-end insurance companies like Haggerty. They Insure alot of Cobras (the 427 SC variety). And with you being in PA, Im assuming you dont drive it year round right? Let them know that. You could set it up with a limitation on annual miles, or not insured during Nov, Dec, and Jan, etc....unless the Mustang is financed of course.
Oh, and just one question- when you hit the deer, did they recommend a particular body shop?
