Default turbo 5.0 tuning chip or no chip?

i have a 91 gt with the HP stage one street turbo (www.turbochargedpower.com or www.hpturbos.com) about to go in. What i was wondering is do i need to have someone burn a chip for it or can i just use the fule PSI (adj with boost referance) and a MSD boost timing retard to tune it? I plan to drive the car a lot on the street so if NOT geeting the chip would only tune it good at WOT then thats not gonna work. also i know some one who knows a guy who has the same turbo kit and he said the guy had trouble with the blow thru mass air meter and had to switch to a draw thru? was it just bad tuning or are the blow thrus not that good?

untill it blows im just going to run on the stock motor at prob 8psi no heads no cam only thing not stock is the TB and its a 70MM. if i blows and wrecks the block i got another 302 out of a van i can rebuild.

Alot of guys i see just use fuel pressure and like you said a timing retard. Simple easy to do. Just need a Wideband to get the a/f good and read your plugs to see how its running.

street drivability will need some tinkering or you can just get used to it. I'd get a tune... or you'll be using that spare block sooner than you plan.

sct pro-racer kit with a handheld.

you can get it tuned anywhere they tune SCT stuff and you'll have the ability to update it later if you tinker. Usually without a trip to a dyno if you have a wideband AF guage.

All i can find is that set up for mod cars do they make one for the fox cars with the EECIV er whatever its called? also cost is a issue i spent to much of my buget on the chassie. id like to keep the tuning under a grand if at all possable. A local shop said they can get a diablo chip in for about 600+ dyno time.

that's a little high on the cost but it'll work great. enjoy.

I have personally chipped several fox's with diablo chips. Sometimes had to re-solder a capacitor to the other side of the board but nothing any competent wrench shouldn't be able to do. I've never chipped a fox with SCT but that's a matter of timing. Apex does it all the time from what I hear.

im looking in to a A/F gauge because i really dont trust the local dyno shop, and id like to tinker with it my self a little. Any one recomend a A/F gauge thats good, a friend of mines got a auto meter one but it bounces around a lot( but mabye thats the tune) hes got a wideband O2 on it do they all bounce like that?
so basicly what gauge what wideband and dose the mounting position matter?
as always thanks for the info guys this cars gonna be a blast

The autometer ones that flash aorunda re narrow band and are not for tuning. YOu need a real wideband. The AEM ugo one is cheap and does a good good around 250bucks give a take a few dollars. The dynojet wideband is a good peice modulardepot.com has them for good prices also. Im not sure if americanmuscle.com carries any yet?

I looked at the dyno jet ones ill prob grab that it looks like a good pice.

Any of you guys play with the Pro-M or PMAS remote maf optimizer? i was thinking about getting one to help with part throttle tuning because it looks like it has a low speed and high speed adjustment?

Im leaning tward just trying to tune it with the MSD retard fule pressure and mabye that maf tuner. I looked at some of the software. on some of those EMS and omg that stuff dosnt make any sense to me at all. I suposse if i cant do it this way i could just sell the stuff i got so far and get a vortec carb incloser and run a carb.
