you know what a cobra R is?

It was 95' and only had a cowl type hood. The wing was the same as the rest of the stangs that year. It did have a 351 in it.

Yeap, SVT never had a 2000 Cobra but it did have a Cobra R, some say it was due since the 99 Cobra was lacking in advertised HP and SVT had to scramble to get more ponies thus delaying the production for 2000. The 95 and 2000 are both Rs but the 2000 looks way faster just standing still since they changed much more of the exterior. IMO its one of the best looking factory built exterior styling for late model stangs that came out of Ford. With that kit you have to go all or nothing. I saw it in person back in 2000 at a dealer they wanted 75k. It is a race car, a lot of the interior was missing and it even had a fuel cell in rear along with a bigger pumper in the trunk. It was weird seeing that stang with all those mods in a dealer.

I have 2 friends that own real 2000 Cobra R's. They're quite exciting to drive. maddeningly fast and well handling right out of the box. One got his for 31K used with almost no miles and a handful of very well done mods, the other got his new and paid 75K at 19% interest.

Come on man, don't be that way. 30 years from now that Cobra R will be worth LOTS more than a vette.

the R is a collector, and IMO shouldnt be driven except to shows, or meets. I work at a chevy dealer (yes i know...), and we sold a z06 in lemans blue yesterday ... and if you havent seen or heard one in person, it is well worth it. the z06 is like the 2nd fastest car around nurburing or whatever its called in germany.
i think the 00 R wing looks good on the 94-98s, as long as you have the 00 R front bumper as well

The z06 is NOT a race car. It's a street car. A purpose built street car. It's meant to be commuted in and taken to the track on weekends by grey-haired old men whose nuts have shriveled to the point that nothing less than a waaaaaaaaaay overpriced chebbie will get em' hard again. Yes, it is a fine handling and pretty fast car but it's not even on the same planet as a cobra R.
I'd suggest we stop comparing apples to oranges. The Cobra R' series is a real factory race car series. Sure they're street "legal" but I think that was more of a way for Ford to assure fast sales of the limited numbers of R's than a true intent on them being street cars. The corvette is an antique design trying to compete with european sports coupes of far purer breeding on their own tracks and it does a fair job but it's not a great one. Z06 option is only a way to nearly double the cost of an unreliable street beast.
Feel free to disagree.

I have to call that ludicrous. I've driven both of those R's and they're not collectors... they're purpose built race cars that are designed to be run and run hard. If you let them sit in a garage and only see the light of day for some lame bling-show or idiot meet then you are a sinner and you'll burn in hellfire. R's out of the box were just shy of being streetable by the average guy. The suspension was set up so taught that it was genuinely uncomfortable to drive on anything but a race track and they're exhaust is beyond loud and beats you up bad after while.

I don't want anyone to take my comment as an attack or put-down of them personally but having driven all of the cars in question... I think my opinions are justified.
Now we've had some chebbie bashing... let's have some mopar bashing for desert. Or better yet... let's find a way to put the verbal smack down on the fancy euro-trash that seems to be the yardstick by which all sports cars are measured.
My last opinion on the matter is: Mustang is an american icon. It embodies the spirit of power, independance and individual freedom and is available in a price range to fit even modest budgets. Corvette is an american icon as well, true enough. It's also a more exclusive car stuck for its entire production history at the upper end of the price spectrum that you could expect to see in american built cars. For all that it is, the corvette will never be the any-man's ***** extension. The mustang on the other hand has held that title for 41 1/2 years (minus the almost-a-stang 74-78's... :shiver: )
