If you are talking about waiting on the HPS intake, I hear ya. I heard that well over a year ago when I got mine, too. It became apparent it was total BS. I ran across a used one and cancled my order with him. Total waste of time. Wish he coulda just leveled with me like I asked several times and said it's gonna be a while.

thanks for the spark plug info. also thanks for telling me yours r3d.

Just trying to get it going for now. I have some things going on now and not sure if I'll ever get to do it. Mine makes 12#s with a stock upper and a 4# lower. If I do end up doing it, I'll be sure to let you guys know.

They should be on sale at HPS next week. I just talked to Bob 2 days ago. Did he give anyone else a different impression?

My experience says that if Bob tells you ".................uhh......we'll have some in about 2 weeks" that it is total BS. Unless something changed you'll be waiting a while.

I didnt have a long wait at all for mine back when i placed my order. this has been some time ago though. i think IIRC i waited a week, maybe two.

on another note... Fedex brought me a present. got my tubular k-member. its a QA-1. hope it holds well. ended up not being able to buy the MM one like i originally planned. oh well. life happens. anyone have the factory control arms laying around? Cant get tube'd ones yet

I don't think waiting for <some unnamed company> to pound out a CAD for the new intake is going to get the thing built (or they already would have made some headway) and MHS doesn't have any CAD resources they can tap (but Nick knows what elements the design needs) so it looks like we're going to community design this one. Yep, y'all and me. And we're going to do it for fun/free and then pay retail for our intakes. Why? Partly because we're a bunch of raving nutters but mostly because there's no other way. To this point the only actual work that I know has been done has been done by me or for me by MB members.

So, I did some more work on the new intake yesterday. I have a scale drawing of a primitive top view and a MB member has made a prototype CAD model of one of the runners. NO! you guys can't see either yet. But I'll give you a hint at the general form... The intake will look fairly similar to:

I have 2 full size runner cores (the shortest ones) sculpted and I'll finish the shaping and smoothing those this weekend. As mentiomed, I've got a MB member helping out with the CAD but we could probably use an experienced 3D designer's help if any of you guys are such a thing (Dan?).

Now that I've got precise measurements of everything and have done some more mock-up work I have reasonable certainty that the new intake should clear all 2.5" cowls, probably most 2" and maybe the odd 1.5" hood. It's only just protruding through the hole in my hood when I mock it up with a 6061.com elbow. Yippee!

In a week or so I hope to have all the runner cores sculpted and the first primitive plenum set up. I'll figure out the fuel rail mounting needs and the coolant crossover issues last. Right now I'm trying to make sure and have a rear coolant crossover built into the casting in the first place.

What to name the thing? I'm thinking Ansaugkrümmer-811 (German for intake manifold 8-1-1, 8cyl 1intake valve, 1 exhaust valve)

Looks great ... but I sure wish somebody would convince Trick Flow to replicate the factory BULLITT 4.6 intake for the 5.4 (they've already replicated the original BULLITT intake for the 4.6).

This project you're doing now does sound like a fun project working on it from the ground up. I just wish I was more familiar with CAD so I could contribute.

ansaugkrummer 811 would of course be shortened to AK-811. Hammerhead has some pimp hand so I'll add it to the list.

Others?

AK-811
HammerHead

I did some more work on the runner cores last night. Got one completely shaped and smoothed. It's ready for epoxy coating this weekend. It'll need to be fairly durable. I'm building my mock-plenum box tonight and I'll try and bang out 2 more runner cores this weekend. Once I finish those I can do the coolant crossovers (I'm making one front and one back, if it makes it into production, cool).

Got one of the long runners done. Man that took literally hours of carving. So I'm up to half the main plenum and 3 runners. I'm going to try and finish the plenum today and then I'll get some wire and set up a jig so i can get the rest of the runners set up. I'm also going to work on a thermostat housing block and the crossover tubes.

I'll have pics later on. I've been taking pictures for tracking for each step but I haven't been posting them for obvious reasons.

Hmmm... well, how about some help with a 2d of the flanges that mount to the heads? I'd bet you probably have something like those laying around from making the machining program for your plates.

BTW, I now have 4 complete runner cores. The plenum, on the other hand, shattered. Clay just isn't very sturdy unless you kiln it and I'm working with it air-dried. I'm going to have to use a sheet metal mock-up of the plenum instead but that's cool, I have a buddy with a brake fabbing one for me.

I may post some pics soon but I'll have to think about that.

talked to bob... another casting delay. grrrr... looking like end of month. He's trying but the casting plant keeps pushing him back. Try to cut him a little slack. It's a small order so they're working on the big $ order first and his is sorta catch-as-catch-can.

Tommy: Please call Bob and give him FTP's info and get FTP in touch with bob. He'd like to put a cross link on his site to the headers. He tells me a LOT of people call up asking if LT's are available and he knows they are but not where to tell people to go.

I REALLY REALLY need some help getting this thing done. Anybody with the skills... PM me.

Cardude or anybody else doing a Lightning swap, I have a few tunes I can email you if you have a SCT programmer. None will be perfect but they'll get you up and running if you have 42#ers and a 90mm L MAF.

8cylinder, 1 intake valve, 1 exhaust valve. Leaves room for a 821 and a 822 if those ever come out.
