I just changed my oil and I'm getting really fine metal powder on the magnet on the drain plug. I've got about 4-5k miles on it and this is the 2nd time I've changed the oil. Any advice or input? I'm just gonna assume its just from break in but you know how assumtions go.

it's cake. Done it a few times. pull the stick out first. IRS comes out easy. When putting the IRS in connect the front of the cradle to the chassis before the rear. Have 2 friends to help you, the IRS weigs 400lbs. Use the shocks as the vertical hold in's for the stick. disconnect the uppers and lowers and then pop the shocks off.

disconnect drive shafts, brakes and ABS sensors before you start. If you're swapping with a termy then you'll need to swap his DS snout onto yours and vice versa. pretty sure thta'll work but be prepared to go buy u-joints. takes about 4 hours with hand tools if you know what you're doing. Takes about 45 minutes with air tools if you know what you're doing.

Probably the last of the ring break-in. That went away on mine after the 2nd oil change. didn't see a lot of it but enough to catch my eye.

just make sure you swap driveshafts to and tail pipes other than that its pretty straight forward, i diid a 2004 cobra swap on my friends 2003 gt cobra motor tranny, computer ,kept the solid axle, but i found out the hard way lol the gt drive shaft wont work with the 6speed solid axle, im pressuming you have a 5 speed? im not sure about that . we thought we had it made until we went to put the shaft in.had to get a custom aluminum shaft from d&d performance 500.00 bucks ,but it worked out great

Yeah tail pipes are given and iv done my fair share or solid axle swaps they're easy I thought rear cradle would just fall out after removing brake lines and abs I knoe my car is drilled for it and wasn't sure about the drive shaft can I ill get u joints and swap snouts. New joints would be smart either way. I'm going to try and do it fri night let u know how it goes =)

Just curious here... its going to take a little longer to build the my engine how I want, thought is maybe just swap the terminator stuff onto my gt and leave it be. I have a old fairmont futura and been thinking of using the engine in it. Maybe find a take off gt500 setup instead of cutting up my termie lower. I'm still going to hafta drive my gt everday for awhile... and a full on built car would allow me to show off some ideas I've had for awhile... thoughts?

with a 4v and 15lbs from an F1A with a respectable intercooler you'll need every bit of a set of 72's. You could maybe get away with 60's but you'll be at 100% duty cycle by the numbers.

i've already pm'd a couple people on 5.4 parts to give them first crack. but hunter has given up the swap after he has falling for a new, younger girl. a G8, so i will be handling all his parts and getting them sold. so far the headers i believe are sold but everything else is open. i'll be making a full post in the classified section this weekend after taking inventory and pics. but just to tease you guys and give first crack he has a NIB 76mm turbo/intercooler as well as a complete fuel setup and direct port NOS kit. so if there is anything you guys need for your swap, pm me and you'll get dibs.

Well I got the irs completely removed last night, gotta get some u joints and swap snouts still. Sat it all aside for now going to dissasymble and paint the cradle comp orange to match my car and get new bushings throughout. Also scored front cobra brakes to match the rear and bilstines too! The springs are too low for my taste the previous owner had cut a coil outta the eibachs so ima need new springs too. But my little pile is growning oh and I almost forgot the engine builder said the cams will polish up fine so I can use them... custom blower grinds! That's good news the engine purchase was a steal at only $500, last bit I also scored termie 17x9's too. I'm going to use them and my old rubber because the 335/35 18 extreme 555's dr's are a bit scary in the rain

Its probably not a great idea at all cutting a half coil the way it sits in there.. My suggestion is don't cut but if you do, do 1 full revolution .. thats my 2 cents.. i have installed 3 suspensions on mustangs and a few other cars..

Sweet, good luck at the show, I am sure allot of us are not to that point yet

Went to the salvage yard and this engine was really only missing the alt and one small snapped piece of piping elbow right by the plenum.
This is the stuff i do know about this engine:
120 000miles,
175 compression (was ran on the machine but not in the truck) on all cylinders, 02 f150,
90 day warranty

The fella said he would put in the flexplate for auto trans and the busted plenum piece.

$650 plus core or 100 bux.. And its local so no shipping costs.

I seen a couple nav engines and a few other higher mileage 5.4s the guy said was cheaper then $650.

I gotta tell ya guys... I seen that PI engraving and i nearly creamed my pants. lol.. For us NPI guys thats a big thing im sure you know

Oh another Q?
With the hardballer intake did it allow enough space for the strut tower bar?

Hey thanks on the wishes and best to you on your build too. However my swap may not be finished but, my cars been in mm&ff once before with my wife posing next to it and a small write up, my kids and I were in some mm&ff pics from baytown two years ago, and I was a caption contest winner (about justin burcham) last christmas! My eaton is up for sale and I'm hunting a gt500 tvs set up now! Rest of engine is being remachined just a bit and some nice extras added =0. I'm just hoping she's sexy enough to catch one of the photographers eyes, and by spring she should stop them dead in there tracks! Anyone know of a tvs swapped new edge around here? I just wish I could take the engine with me to display before installing nevertheless I'm getting closer!!!

i was just curious what 4v heads do you have? cause i was going to do the gt500 intake but from my findings that intake only fits ford gt/gt 500 heads. ford even changed up the exhaust manifold bolt pattern just so you cant use older 4v headers,i do like the way the gt500 timing chain cover has the blower tensioner set up with out the pulley bridge. but i think for did some revisions you might wanna check that out, cause gt500 intakes arent cheap these days let me know what you find out

Thanks on the sig pic heads up that's just about right for me I think u got 17 or 18's. I just need to get rid of my 4x4 stance lol!

And on the heads I have 2000 navi heads. I found take off s/c's on svt boards in the neighborhood of 400 to 700 depending on milage. A friend of mine who went to sam (school of automotive machinist) and I were looking at making a intake for the 5.4 to use the older b heads about 2 yrs ago... marital probs kinda set that back and off so I may relook into that. I'm a fabricator in the maint dept at a forging company so I can make what I need. The newer swap just occured to us (I'm not the only one putting in on this build). And just like the headers I may end up taking a stab at making the lower if need be. Just really started searching out gt500 stuff. I'm sure there's a lot to take into consideration on it. Though we will see what happens if parts were avail would people buy them? Very few I'm sure but I would be nice to have avail. I started all of this to just gain some hp and tq and shut down some pesky gto's with a nice 5.4 2v and like I said before it has kinda taken on its own persona. So far things are going good and I think the eaton setup is already sold for me. I have less than a grand total outta pocket so far. And am usuing a lot of fabrication labor as trade for what iv needed which is just time and time cost money lol! No matter I'm paying for it. Ill keep ya posted on that part of the blower though and will try and completely document how it all goes together

I don't recommend cutting stock springs or aftermarket springs. Just because I don't recommend it doesn't mean it's unsafe all the time but you must know what you're doing. Stock springs are too soft for much cutting. DON'T let the spring get hot during the cutting.

Should bolt right up. AFAIK the alt is in the same spot in the valley of the block on the pickups.

I'm ashamed of you for not having bought that already. Don't worry about or use that shitty truck intake. Get the HPS from myillwill and be happy when you're done.

Depends on the brace maker but in general you should be able to make one work though you may need to use a handful of spacers if you're re-using one for a 4.6. Most will need modified. I wouldn't bother unless you race. If possible just fab one up. It's 3 bars of steel and 3 mounting plates. Bend one of the bars in 2 places and viola.

Kills you for not disclosing your trade earlier. We need to chat. Think lightning upper plenum that dives off to the side. I'd love to have that 4" hunk of visibility back.

The answer to your question is yes. Duh. It's a matter of letting people know there's a part that lets them do something. In modern hotrodding people want bolt together solutions and once there is one, no matter how hack-ish the goal is, they'll flock to it. Look at ricers... **** man they buy leaf superchargers err.. I mean blowers.

Case in point, the 5.4 swap was outright looked down on before the HPS intake, a few of us convinced HPS to make a 5.4 intake and once they did the swaps started happening. People stopped looking down on it and started looking out for it.

I hear that my 96 V6 daily sits like a Truck lol.And with the 05+ Gt wheels with the taller tire its not helping. But i use it to tow alot of **** so i can't complain.

There 17s with 245-45s up from and 315-35s out back...

I don't either my stockers have 1 coil cut of the front and rear and once im in the car it looks like its dropped 2 inches. And i can now push down on the back of the car by myself and hit the bump stops.I did it because i wanted to see it with the dropped look while i got the cash together for a set of H&Rs or Eibachs but the funds won't allow it so looks like im stuck with the stockers for now. It already makes me nervous and i am yet to drive it on these springs..

if u cut the springs u need new shocks/struts. thats what stops u from hitting the bump stops mostly. the fox struts/shocks are shorter so are much better for lowered stangs .

I'm going to be using the stock bilstiens along with the complete upgraded cobra brake system. I'm giong to use a cutoff wheel to cut springs down really only cutting because I want the stance and shows next weekend and emptyed my funds for the month lol! (Chrismas is close too! These are my presents to myself).

Now red I been thinking about the lightning s/c problems too. Ill sent you my number and we can talk. I used to own a small fab company and all I did was custom stuff mostly for homes or resturants or personal. But my friend and I came up with some intake designs to put b heads on the 5.4 with custom intake only he graduated before we could dyno test one ;( pretty radical stuff but it would work. And from what I see there are enough take tvs blowers cheap out there. I may be able to offer a solution to use them. Going to test everything on my own setup. Make it, test it, jig it, sell it! Lol! But at the time there wasn't really enough disire out there to pursue I didn't think. Guess I was wrong.

And lst note here another friend blew up his second 4.6 in his 99 and I think I have him talked into a very simple 5.4 2v swap now lol!

Default alternator for sale

330 GT, I agree with you above. Hey, if anybody with a 4.6 or doing a 5.4 SOHC swap that needs an alternator, I have one. It is a Motorcraft reman and is like new. I am doing the Lightning swap so I needed a different alt. I paid $150 for this one and it is way bettern than any Auto Zone, Advance cheap junk. Make me a good offer. I have a pic if needed. I'll try to get some pics of my Lightning swap, it is about 1/2 done or do.
