Update on mine...pulled off the non-PI heads and so far everything looks ok. After wiping the carbon off the pistons, and checking the cyliner walls, they definately look better then the 4.6. Any idea on power what I might have with the PI heads, Custom cams that are comparable to the Stage II's and maybe intake adapter plates? (Working on getting the plates from JScottGT)

270hp/330tq. Don't let the numbers fool you. The average tq is very high.

FYI all...I just updated my website with more pics and text and some credits to those that were most helpful and important to the success of the project.

Got my hood to fit, i took a dremel to the rear of the shaker applique and made some room for the TB and EGR to fit. Took a driveby vid. I'm leaking bad at the EGR tube so i want to do a delete kit, where can i get one? i saw it on modular depot but is there anywhere else i could look?

I just crushed the EGR pipe at the plenum, since my headers don't have a provision for EGR. You can just take a plate of aluminum or steel and put it between the plenum and the valve and then disconnect the vacuum from the valve the the DPFE sensor and disconnect the electrical stuff from the DPFE sensor. You'll need the EGR shut off in the tune after that. You should cap the EGR bung at the header though. A leaky EGR pipe represents an exaust leak and it'll run disgustingly rich till that's fixed.

Sounds fantastic BTW. Great work man!

Default back and in business!

been gone for a minute, but have great news.
Every once in awhile the automotive gods look down upon you, hear your prayers, and smile. They bestow upon you a gift in the form of an opportunity too good to pass up. Those gods smiled upon me this weekend. Fri. morning the garage I work at took in a '98 Expedition 5.4 with a #1 misfire code. We figured it was a simple fix, replaced the coil, and all 8 plugs, and went to kick it out the door. Long story short, on further inspection, the truck ran like crap, and all the oil was in the coolant. Motor is toast, plus it needs brakes at all 4 corners. Vehicle owner can't afford to fix. And so my opportunity presented itself. With an offer of $500, plus settling the bill with my boss, I am now the owner of a '98 Expedition 5.4, and am now preparing to proceed with a DUAL engine swap, 5.4 into mustang, 4.6 into Expedition. The mustang can wait, the motor DOES need a full rebuild, and I wanna do it right. I'll rip the motor out of the Expedition, collect the necessary things to swap a 4.6 into the truck, get the truck running on the 4.6, then begin my 5.4 build. Gotta love it when opportunity knocks!!

And CONGRATS to those that got their 5.4 stangs running while I was gone!

Fixed my exhaust leak. found some guys that used pennies, yes pennies, to fix that leak. They removed the pipe and reinstalled the fittings with the pennies covering the hole and the bung sinched it down. worked like a charm, and looking into the engine bay the EGR system still looks in tact :P i'll get a new exhaust vid tomorrow

Quick question: Anyone running the gaskets that MMR supplies with their adapters? i'm thinking about swapping them out for a set of ford gaskets like i have on the adapter to head side. I think im slightly burning coolant because that top gasket is really thin. thoughts?

the mean tq production from idle to redline is very high. at 1000rpm it's pretty stout and at 5000 rpm it's still pretty stout. The 4.6 is kinda a ***** at 1000rpm. Ever try to accelerate up a hill in 5th gear starting from about 50mph (1200rpm ish) without downshifting? Takes a while in a 4.6 car.

Cut the pipe off 4" from the plenum, crushed, folded, crushed. Used a vice. Looped the black line on the DPFE, turned EGR off in the tune, and connected all the vacuum lines as normal. Dunno about the cap... probably a standard thread pitch though.

The fibre gaskets with the orange sealing rings... those are really good for the bottom. I'd use regular PI for the top. They're a one time use gig. If you aren't getting good performance from them swap out for some PI's.

while we're on discussion about deleting stuff, can the dpfe be trashed also? or should i just leave everything as is? my cobra is a bit diff than your egr setups being as i have 3 egrs, the one on top that bolts to the intake, and 2 on the front of the engine on each side under each coil pack with a rubber hose connecting them, and i also have what looks to be another dpfe next to the lower egr on the passenger side of the engine. it has the same connections as the dpfe on the manifold and they go to the same harness. so im guessin it is one. any help on this would greatly appreciated bc im lost on it haha

Just read that sometimes after draining the radiator of coolant it will take 5-6 top offs in the first few days-week, so i'm not terribly stressed right now

when you guys finished your 23v swap into a new edge (99-04), how did it run when you got the bugs worked out. Minus a tune? I have heard some say it runs alright and is driveable without a tune, and some say you cant at all

should be fine. Gasket alignment is critical. take your time.

my 2v ran pretty poorly (wouldn't idle without a little throttle) but was driveable. It only took the simplest of mail order tunes to get it running pretty solid and after that I played with it a bit.

big in, big out. A CAI only helps so much.

Weren't people just saying it takes a 3/4" cap same thread as a garden hose? Should be able to find it at a hardware store in brass..

yea i have seen that car before lol, i did a lot of research on the hood because i have a brand new mach2 hood , and from all the info that i found out the lightning motor sits so high in the mustang even with a 6 inch cowl hood you still have to cut some of it for the blower to clear the hood, and being that i just bought the mach2 i wasnt about to buy a brand new hood just to cut so i used the stock one, i took my time with the jig saw and cut as tight as i could around the blower, but made sure to leave some space for the motor to move when it reved up. but i like how it turned out,it was a pretty easy swap,i used the factory mustang gt wiring harness and computer, all i did was have it dyno tuned and it runs great!! the torque is insane!!

I think it looks good, but I may have gone about it a different way. I would have done a custom filter/MAF/TB facing straight ahead (rather than down and to the side,) and I would have done a custom cowl with an open front. I think it would look much better that way. But maybe that's just me
