ya quicksilver i actually just finished up my swap 2 weeks ago. it runs pretty damn good even untuned. i need to get some pics and a video posted up on here. i just need to figure out how to do it and have the pic in my post instead of a link to photobucket. its wanting to run a little warm on me but my fan fried so im running one thats a bit small to get me by. but my dad also told me that when your breaking a new motor in that they tend to run warm sometimes for a bit. hes an old school chevy guy idk how much of that pertains to me haha.

does anyone have a spare fan that they would car to sell me?

how did it all go? where did you have trouble or run into snags? anything surprising? what all did you go with? i know you had your intake modified to fit. what about the fuel system? k memeber spacers? exhaust? any wiring harness issues?

it went relatively smooth. a buddy and i fought it dropping the engine in to get it to line up with the mounts but it was just because of lack of space in the engine bay. i just used my stock manifolds and had my hpipe off so i just took it to an exhaust shop and had them put it back on. i didnt use kmember spacers and was able to use my stock hood. i had to cut my water crossover pipe and just used a piece of radiator hose in the middle. i had to change my fuel lines that go in between the rails but it was all easy stuff. im goin to go up to 30 or 39 pound injectors and probably a 255lph fuel pump because eventually it will be blown or turboed but for the next season its just gonna see a 100 shot of nitrous.

even being untuned this thing is a beast. ive got a buddy with a fox thats already givin me **** cus he beat me, but i blew the tires off even after i took off easy not dumping the clutch. i pedaled it and got back in it and still lit em up. your def gonna need drag radials, thats the next thing on my list after a tuner.

I keep tellin you guys the only thing you can't have is traction. When you blow the tires off in 3rd it's a little disconcerting. Took me a while to get used to that.

ya traction is a big problem now. im almost dreading gettin it tuned (not really) cus that will unlock about 30 or 40 more horses. but i just asked about a set of 26x11.5 16 ET streets so that will solve alot of problems except for now ill have to find some 16 in wheels

im gonna try to drive it with my 4.10s still in it at first when i finish my swap just to see how it goes. What can i do to solve the traction issues other the the obvious solutions of tires/suspension? what are the best street legal tires out there for dry traction? im not a fan of nittos. im looking for an excellent set of street slicks for the rear.

Picked up my engine fri night and took to a machinist to double check everything it has sat for 3yrs but everything seems to be ok so far. The pistons are dss and the cams are custom ground so they have to be checked for exact specs I paid 500 for longblock. I'm going to start a build thread on another board but keep my posting here too! Right now I'm looking at doing polydon coatings and getting new rods I figure ill have another 2k in it before I get it running in the car minus the tune. Buyin arp hardware, forsure and having heads slightly worked... the engine itself has taken on its own persona lol! Ill try and get some pics up before the weekend!

congrats on the progress.

I got burned on my balancer. Kragen had the wrong part twice in a row. Instead I hooked up some of the gauges that I'd been neglecting and test fired the methanol kit. I have some wiring work to fix since the meth kit came on as soon as key-on power was supplied. There's a glitch somewhere... probably a ground I need to make or something. Dammit.

I also have a fuel leak right at the hard line. I have to figure that out too.

One problem after another.

BTW, www.thisweedinreview.com/forums works now. Sign up and say hey.

Im almost finish with my swap. I need a few things:

1. the spec steel flywheel which is on its way, should get it on monday.

2. I want to upgrade my injectors and i was looking into 36lb venom injectors. are they ok or should i go with 42 lb frpp injectors($240.00 new).

3. I'm still working on the headers. A local muffler shop charges me 200 to make my longtube bbk headers work on the 5.4. He did some longtube headers for an FX4 and to he did a really good job. what do you all think

If they can make the headers work for 200 that'd be cool. Costs everyone else a grand or more. I'd like to see you in a set of FTP's headers simply because they're made for the application and won't have any funky bends in the flow path that you end up with when you convert 4.6 headers to 5.4 use.

30's are right on (if a tad big) for most NA 2v's. 32's or 36's would be right on for a NA 4v.

36's don't really have a lot of uses in my book, they're a little small for a supercharged 5.4 car but a little big for a NA car... if you need them then you may as well get the 42's and have some room left to grow for the same price. If you're supercharged then I'd start at 42's. Make sure you have enough fuel pump to support the flow.

on this same note, does anyone have any input as to what kind of fuel injectors i should be looknig into?... 5.4 4V with forged bottom end, sullivan intake. F1A procharger/Large boost on the way within a year, cams on the way within a year.

Whats "Large Boost" to you?
What Range in Power are you looking for when all said and done?

But im going out on a limb and say you might want to look into som 72# inj.

F1A procharger or larger. but i also want these injectors to work with the 5.4 N/A right off the bat. i dont wanna be at 100% duty cycle either. fuel systems are not my forte.

Question 4-V Cam Interchangeability

Gentlemen ... We have a question here for those who dont mind. Before I go any further, we've read the Sullivan website tech information and we've hit a curve.

We (or should I say a friend of mine before he splurges a whole bunch of personal funds) need to know if the new FRPP 12MM 4-V cams will work on 96-98 Cobra 4-V heads; and/or if these cams were to be used with the 96-98 heads will we have problems, etc., ... (???)

Although we've read the tech info., we noticed the power parts FRPP once sold as an intake manifold, etc., set for the 96-98 motors is now obsolete from Ford. They are currently offering the 12MM higher-lift cam set for the 4-V engines but does anyone know if this new 4-V cam set is compatible with all 4-V 4.6 heads or not?

Any and all assistance will be greatly appreciated.

As far as I know all the differences in the 4v heads are in the intake and exhaust ports and intake bolt-hole locations. I'm pretty certain you can use newer cams on older heads, just like the PI/NPI thing. Ford's really good about part interchangeability in the modulars, mostly as a side effect of modular factories.

While I've never done it, I see no reason not to. Not sure how great the FRPP cams will be. They have a tendency to be extremely mild. Hell even the 00' R was wearing some mighty mild cams.

Quicksilver: We need to know how much boost. I can figure out the power window and subsequent fuel system needs (down to fuel line size) but I absolutely have to know a boost level. The F1A is a big unit but it's going to be the amount of manifold restriction that determines boost level. If you're a street car then I'd say no more than about 15lbs but really 8-10 is plenty. 42's won't be enough for either. 60's would probably do but power level will tell us if you need 72's or even 80's.

Stalkr: Yeah you can use the 42's but they won't be optimal. I'd really just use one of the 30/32/36 flavors while you're 2v NA and then when you put boost at it you'll want the bigger squirters. The 255 pump may or may not be enough when you put the blower on but it's PLENTY now. I think your fuel mileage will suffer with 42's NA due to less efficient atomization. If you can find a 4 or 6 hole 42lbs injector those would do alright.

im really not sure... i havent really thought that far into the future until now. i definitely want this thing to be something i can drive around the street with no worries at all. Every day i want to wake up and have the mustang be an option for me to take to work. This is not a track car in any way.

i guess a reasonable amount of boost for street driving would be about 12 lbs., but dont put it past me to push that thing to its limit. i am the kind of guy that will do a 10 second pass and immediately start making plans to make the car do a 9 second pass. Never satisfied! as far as you calculations go though plan on the F1A putting out around 12-15 lbs.
