If the power steering pump mounting holes are missing, what do you guys do to mount it?
Use the earlier style cover

Thumbs up Mounting Locations

If the 4.6 shares accessories, sensors, etc., with the 5.4 this is even better news. What I'm wondering now is do all the front engine acessories mount in the same location(s) as with the 4.6?

Second .... (and please by no means am I trying to dispute anyone's word) .... I've had a couple of folks SWEAR that shims are needed to install the 5.4 in the Mustang. I've also been informed that shims are not necessary. My question is, why would somebody get the impression that shims are needed in the first place?

Thanks again everybody for all the information and assistance.

By shims, are they referring to k-member spacers? Because those are necessary when doing a 4v install. Otherwise, they are not needed. And yes, all of the accessories should mount the same. Unless I am mistaken, the only difference is the routing of the belt/tensioner setup. So some of the stuff from your 4.6 might not work. Other than that, you should be golden.

HHHMMMM ... that is a good question. To be honest, the only swap I know of that shims were supposedly required was a swap from a 4.6 2-V to a 5.4 4-V with a blower. I know of another swap but I don't recall if it was a 2-V or 4-V 5.4 engine being installed.

Yes, I think the spacers (shims) were used on the K-member.

So do I understand you correctly that a 5.4 2-V swap does NOT require shims ... (???)

Thanks Again !!!

look at my web page... www.squarerootofone.com (it's finally back up and running) you'll see pics of the install. Nowhere are there pics of shims being used... mostly because they're not needed for a 2v. And yes, all the accessories mount in their stock location.

Default 90psi

I just got off the phone w/ Wayne at SHM, and he said 90psi is just fine. He said the cams will cause it and the most important thing is to have them degreed correctly.

Finally done!? Thats good. I dont surface much but have been on top of this thread for months. I'm anxious to see power output with the longtubes. I'd really like to see 350rwhp NA but if not, nitrous would be an easy fix.

Well crap! I can't get my car together and now I can't even post a link correctly

Anyhow! The link is at "modularrevolution.com" in the tech articles. It's about sparkplug threads from the brand NGK appearing in the combustion chamber. Not sure why NGK would be the only brand? Reason being, the guy has only seen it happen a few times and if it were a diffrent brand, my guess would be that brand would have done it to.

POOR machine work! ......Is it from Ford or that guy???? I think it's from Ford! All he said was he pulled the heads. That guy is great with the PI heads and I'm sure he would catch his self in a goof before he would post that.

Long story short.....check your plugs with the heads before mounting.

no the web site is back up and running... the car hasn't moved in weeks. don't get me started.

in any case... I'm hoping for more than 330 to the wheels. Any more is gravy. We'll see, someday. I've got to put together my nitrous kit now too. That's been in the plans but, thoughts of a blower keep surfacing too and there's a nice one around here for cheap that I might just pick up.

Have you ever given a full list of your mods r3d? I know some of them (5.5L, stg II heads, 270 cams, HPS intake, and now LT's,) but do you have anything else?

well guys i have one hell of a story for you...

how about i pay the money,

then i sent him a pm to find out what i needed to do electrically to make the gt pumps work

and i get a pm back "um what? there's not any fuel stuff included"

...it says in your add 03 cobra tank, 60lb injectors, dual gt pumps

"um it wouldn't let me edit the first post, you should have known that when the price kept decreasing that it didn't include all the other stuff"

dude are you stupid? people lower the price progressively till they get a buyer, not lower the price and take **** out and expect it to still sell if people weren't willing to pay the original price

thank god i ask about hooking the pumps up or I would have ended up with a box on my front door a hell of a lot lighter than i was expecting

Since you're right at that stage, can you tell me the specs for the bolts that go into the trans mounting holes? It would be nice info to have, so I can get the block on the stand right when I get it.

ok guys I am in the middle of the swap.

I have both motors sitting next to each other (2001 5.4 2v from f150 and my 02 gt 4.6)

Which of the two engines pulleys do I use? There are a few more on the 5.4 it seems, and a little bit of different positions.
Does the timing cover from the 4.6 fit the 5.4? If so, should I just use that? I wouldnt think it would fit.

I am just moving everything from a 4.6 to a 5.4 and getting it running by Sunday. Have the adaptors, headers, 8 bolt fly wheel, head change kit, etc already.

Can you think of anything I am going to run into that wont fit? And anything I need to use from the 4.6 on the 5.4 that I wouldnt notice obviously?

Quick responses would work wonders for me. I greatly appreciate it!

they're custom built from a box of tubes. Flow will never be a problem with them as they're made from 1.75" tube instead of the normal (for mustangs) 1.625".

Anybody want to buy a finished project?

I mixed and matched pullies. All of them except for the PS pump and alternator are 8 rib from the 5.4, after that I just used a 6 rib belt. Timing cover from a 4.6 will NOT fit.

Transfer your 4.6 oil pan and oil pickup tube and beat the 4.6 oil pan's front baffles down a quarter inch to clear the crank throw. Use the 5.4's heater tube (behind the water pump in the engine valley) and you should be good to go.

So then I should just use all the pullies from the 4.6, being that I am leaving the ps pump and alt from the stang on the stang.

not necessarily. Use a 6 rib belt and whatever combination of pullies makes your belt fit and your life easiest. I'm using the PS, AC and alt from my 4.6 but every idler and tensioner pulley is a 8 rib from the 5.4 as well as the crank pulley being from the 5.4. You could probably use all your 4.6's pullies but you'll have to figure out the needed belt length and go to the parts store. That's the easiest part and I'd highly recommend you not stress on it... you'll be able to figure it out no problem.
