Sounds like a definite plan. Pretty much what I'm doing. I'll be looking for 325 from cams, CR, porting and exhaust plus maybe a few from the looming intake tests. After some time I'll do a T trim vortech and look for 500rwhp and 550tq on low boost but that may come with a change to 4V.

Saleen... if I can get you a copy of the Hardball'r would you be willing and able to make a quick turnaround dyno test on your car(within a week or two of receipt)? It'll be the 4.6 intake so you'll have to still use the plates but it'll give us a better idea of how it will work on a 5.4.

i'm willing but do you want it dyno'd or dyno tuned? If you want it just dyno'd, if they pay me the 75 bucks for it, that will be cool. The dyno tune will be 250 though. Or keep the intake

Just looking for a dyno run. We have to finance our own expenses for the time being but I promise it'll be worth it to you later. I'll also look at the cost for a test/report/and keep scenario. I should be able to at minimum get a FAT discount for you. Ideally we'll pass the thing around and have several guys test it.

Cool, i can do it but i would get the dyno before july or after july 4 sometime. Depends on when it can get shipped here. i know the week after next i should be able to get a dyno run and it won't be a 2 hour drive.

coolness. I'm working the angle for you to get it cheap if you want to keep it too. After you finish I want to have myillwillinc and me test it on our builds provided the scheduling works.

looks like i'm gonna try to get a set of comp 278's for my buildup. those should give it alittle bump.

that's a pretty wild cam. Are you running a big dish on your pistons or having them notched? It's almost certian that you'll get some PTV without notching them on stock type or flat top pistons.

Speaking of which, are you down with the test I spoke about above. We each have to pay for our own dyno time but giving 3 before and after dyno results back to HPS is always a good thing.

For everyone: HPS has the first 5 intakes in machining and testing for fit and finish. After they're done with that, we should be able to do any needed testing.

SWEEET! Big torque kicks a$$ Are you planning on any corrections? I find it hard to believe theres no more there. Not insulting your tuning abilities, just saying...

366 TQ+3.73 gears+295 tires=all the white smoke you want. No wonder your slipping them in 3rd. If you decide you want 3.27 or something, I'll probably be putting 3.55s in the cobra soon. If you don't mind used.

They had it right on the money with the AF ratio and timing. I did get some new BFG's for the street, 295's. and those mickey thompson drag radials should definitley cure the 3rd gear spins.

I did expect alittle more TQ and i was thinking close to 300 HP, but i told myself i would be happy with 280HP.

I put a short clip in the dyno results section...

Myillwill: killer. You're on the list. hopefully that dish is deep enough. Let me know how that does...

saleen: that breaks down to about 335bhp and 435btq. Good lord. On 9.4 compression that's bloody impressive. I can't wait to see what 10.5:1 does.

Speaking of which: Can we get an update from all the guys building or buying motors on how your projects are going? We all know my progress but I'd like to hear from some of the lurkers and quiet ones.

I think I'm gonna keep the Cobra 4.6, but I'm keeping my eyes open for a dirt cheap 97 GT. I'll prob buy a motor first, but I'll be going straight drag strip super power with that. If no one beats me too it, I'll let you know what a fully forged 5.4 w/Kenne bell and NO2 does at the strip. Might be awhile.....

My 87 Daytona has seen better days, and I think its time for a new daily driver. Soo many options.....

right now i'm collecting parts. i still need a block. but i have everything else plus a tubular kmember setup for the front. the rods haven't made it yet and the cams will be here in a week or so. i'll probably take the heads to get reworked when i take the block to get bored
out.

Great numbers!!! I am curious as to how much more power is there if you had long tube headers on your car??

Also, a question about how much money you have your motor. How much you have into it so far?? Did you have the heads prior to building the 5.4 or did you get them just for the 5.4??

LT's should net another 15hp or so and maybe a little peak tq. The problem is that there are no kits for them so you'll have to have them custom made.

I'll leave the details of his motor to him to tell.

If i could put long tubes, cams, and the 5.4 intake..maybe 330HP to the wheels. more or less.

I bought the complete 2003 5.4 engine, 10K miles for 1200 bucks. Plus 1300 bucks for the stage 2 heads, it did come with PI heads, then normal bolt ons, but the internals are stock, so motor alone i've spent around $2600 bucks. but with the new parts and bolt ons and susupenion, it's about $4K or more.

Love to hear that!!! People on other boards building there 4.6's and getting the same HP numbers but not anywhere near the torque numbers! And putting a lot more money into the motor!

The LT's would have to be custom but expensive, so i'll probably stick to FRP shorties and call the exhaust good. also the car is so low, i don't think i would have clearance there either.

I like seeing people buy a complete exhaust kit, some bolt on's, then a $3-4K supercharger and they are putting down about 20ftlbs of TQ more than me and i'm N/A. sweet. Though they do have around 90 HP more than me, but when we take off on the tree at the track and i'm hang'n in there at first, they'll be like what the f***...lol

5.4 is the way to go. and imagine the TQ i have now and beefing the internals up and supercharging it then or nitrous. Imagine 8lbs of boost and pushing 380HP and 500lbfts TQ to the wheels!!!(+ or - some) that would be insane. And people like R3DN3CK and Turbo 330 are beefing theirs up to run alot more boost, imagine those numbers!! That will be freak'n awesome!!

I'm staring 325/425 in the face with the buildup I've got going and there'll be a 75-150hp shot on giggle juice on it for those times when that's not enough power. I may go the blower route in 18months to 2yrs but if I do I'll probably slap a set of 4v heads on it and go hog wild.

I just ordered my new 03 cobra flywheel to go with the dual friction kevlar clutch. 51 bucks shipped from D&D. That takes care of all I need to connect it to the driveline. I'm ordering my pistons today and probably my main and rod bearings. I'm ordering H series (hard) bearings so if anyone else wants to look at getting them, I'll post the summit part number after I get them.

i need that, all i lack is bearing/gaskets and a block. every block someone claims to have for sale ends up being cracked or a 4.6. wish i could afford to just buy a brand new one. i'm curious to see your dyno number sas well as mine. i might have a blower to put in the mix as i put this one together.

Here's the bearing part numbers. They're not cheap but they are much stouter than stock bearings, which are one of the first parts to start wearing on performance oriented 5.4's.

Main Bearings:
FEM-153M $92.39/set

Rod Bearings:
FEM-8-7250CH $83.39/set

These don't use a tin layer on the outer surface like stock bearings. The tin layer has been known to wiggle under high loads which precipitates chunking of the bearing surface, also known as premature bearing failure. You will need to make sure you have a good polish on the crank to use these or you'll develop a hot spot. They have larger oil ports than standard bearings.

There are undersize bearings available in the same line if you need them.

Keep screwing up my own edit....

Rod bearings are Federal Mogul
Mains are speed pro

They have identical construction and even the ads are mostly the same so I'm pretty sure they're both made by Federal Mogul and Speed Pro is just rebranding the Mains

I have an 02 GT, what is the minimum that would be required to have a functioning 5.4?

a 5.4L engine (or shortblock, front cover, and timing kit if you mean really bare bones), a little bit of custom exhaust work (maybe 100 bucks worth), 1 set Reichard Racing intake adapter plates, 8 bolt clutch & flywheel, and the hugest nuts on earth if you're transferring the blower over to it... and in such case, a new hood like maybe a 00' cobra R hood. You'll have to figure that one out.

That would run and make sick, disgusting, obscene, tire melting power with your blower. You'd want to build the bottom end with forged parts though cuz that blower will snap a rod at some point. On such a setup, 480-550rwhp and 550+rwtq is quite achievable. Most of that tq starts just off idle.

heavier duty front springs are recommended but not required unless you have cut stock fronts.
