I'll point out again the group purchase for forged pistons and rods that I set up for everyone. H beam Rods 265, flat top Mahle slugs 447, dished 495 w/rings. Rod deal is just about to close. Pistons deal needs 1 more guy.

Well, Granny sideswiped me with her Jeep yesterday, so the cars in the shop. At least this only throws everything off. Messed my whole side up, gave me a new two piece rim, almost pulled off my front bumper. God I hope I don't get totaled out. If I get a car payment I can kiss the 5.4 goodbye for awhile. I supose I could look for a 99 GT.... Just put the Cobra for a nice long nap while I do everything I wanted to it. Good thing I started working at a car lot, get a good deal. I know there's a 2000 Atlantic Blue GT...

That mc-blows chunks. Was it your granny or someone elses?

Good luck on the fix up. Remember, you can do this to a fox body too... requires a little more wiring effort but it's the same basic deal + a k-member. Fox's are dirt cheap lately. Just an idea.

Just ordered my pistons. Mahle Flat tops in .020 over @ 11:1 on a 42cc chamber. I'm cutting out the swirl damns in the heads and doing some polishing as well as fly cutting the pistons a little deeper so I should end up with a final CR of 10.5-10.7 and I'll be able to use any cam Comp makes.

It's one step further on the path to max tq.

TECH Update:

I've gotten word from a guy on the corral that's been at this a while that we can use really aggressive cams from Comp without PTV issues on the 5.4's with 4.6L (stock on 4.6 and 5.4 2V) pistons thanks to an extra .120 deck clearance (pistons sit a little lower in the 5.4 block). He's said that even as big as XE278AH aren't an issue, so you can really beef the motors up with the addition of some cam action and you can do it cheaper and easier thanks to the tall deck motor.

I'm still shooting for 262's for my build because of California's draconian smog laws but some of you may be able to really pull some ugly power with built bottom ends and more RPM from larger bumpsticks.

w00t.

If anyone runs across some examples of dyno graphs with aftermarket cams on 5.4 2V's please share. I'm looking right now but I haven't seen much.

Do you have the 5.0 mag where they put the crane cams in the 5.4?
The specs for it was 228/234 at 0.050 inch, 0.493/0.493 inch lift, 112 degree centerline. non pi cam

It's the Nov 2004 issue. If my scanner worked or if i could fine one, i could slap the mag on it and post it.

Ok, so the snakes getting fixed. Driving the Cobalt from enterprise right now. So I'm back to saving money for a cheap GT, if only the Mach 1's on the lot didn't keep calling me....
Those rods look sweet, but I'm kinda curious if any one else is considering a buildup like this for off road purposes or is that just me? Maybe one day when I have the money I'll do a streetable 5.4 for the cobra, have the meanest NA Cobra convertible around. I'm working with the body shop to try and squeeze a set of BF Goodrich G-Force KDW NT 255s for the front. Only getting one new wheel. If only I had enough for those headlights right now.

That would be sweet.

My build is going slowly i've got the rods, crank, and block just waiting for the pistons and main bearings. Then it will be assembly time for the short block and then i will start saving for Ported and Polished heads, Comp Cams, and intake. It will be awhile as i slowly get the money.

Looks like a good deal for someone staying NA with bolt-ons. It's 2V, so it does me no good. For anyone who hasn't followed everything, this would litterally bolt into your 2V Stang with just flywheel and clutch, and all your bolt-ons transfer over, you just need RR adapter plates for the intake. Great for the not so mechanically inclined.

Pistons are ordered. I'm tearing my spare PI heads down today for some porting and flow testing. I may be starting a new job soon so my saved up vacation from this job will be cashed out and I can spend that on speeding up my build and install.

just got a call from one of the intake makers I've been working with. They're prepping an intake for me to do some testing on and sending me a copy of their adapter plates. As soon as it arrives I'll be looking to myillwillinc and Saleen S330 to ready themselves for a little dyno flog. I'll pay to ship the parts to you, you pay to dyno and ship them back, and I'll follow up with my own dyno flog on my high compression motor.

I need to make sure you guys are prepared to take zillions of ultra high resolution digi-pics and do a step by step write up and eval of the installation, testing and all that. I'll volunteer to take any install notes you provide and your opinions and observations and turn it into a real page turner write-up. I'm hoping we'll get some magazine coverage not too far down the road (Mr. Holdener I'm looking in your direction) that will really show how easy and inexpensive this can be for the average dude-wrench (pun intended) to pull off.

Really got me interested in this stuff, cant believe I havent been keeping tabs all along... but I am going to college next year, and really wont be able to do this stuff, next summer, after this stuff gets easier (thanks to your intake) I will hopefully do it. My brother has a KB GT... but this to me seems even better.

Those are definitely first generation. Here's what gen 2 turned into. Notice the difference in thickness. A set of RR plates would allow your stock hood. There are other things afoot in the industry about this though that will make your life much easier and for less $$.

Hey r3dn3ck i was wondering if they wanted to see what the gains would be with a 4.6 or not i live right next to Saleen330 so if they wanted to see a 4.6 then i could do it too.

by all means. More dyno is more bettuh. I'm trying to show the potential to the 5.4L market but if we can show results on 4.6 they'll be equally happy if not moreso. If you're sure you're prepared for the hassle, I'll add you to my list.

If you're talking about the install write up and taking pics along with dyno that's not a problem. I will get my car dyno'd when Saleen330 tests the intake then i'll do the swap and retest it.
