pardon my ignorance, who is MMR and what is the price, do you know? Thanks for the reply. Also, will 4.6 2V shorty headers work on a 5.4 swap??

I found it. Mod Mustang Racing. Do these allow the PI intake to clear a stock hood on a 5.4 swap?? (BTW I found it exhausting trying to read 150+ pages on this thread trying to dind all of this info so thansk for any help!)

shorties will fit without any issues, a x-pipe will fit with alittle 'bending' or brute force to give it an inch. a h-pipe needs alittle more work. as for the coil paks, my pass. side sits at an angle and i'm fine with it. look at my build and u can see it.

I was just about to ask about the same things

I have a 2000 'vert with a gillion miles, does it make any sense to drop in a stock (or reman-ed) 5.4? what kind of power would power could I see with a 4.6 intake, adaptors and FRPP shorty headers?

I had hoped to go a few more months and build something with a bit more compression and mild cams, but that doesn't look like it's gunna happen :-/

I think i speak correctly when i say, if you drop in a 5.4 SOHC in place of your 4.6, and it has some PI heads on it already, then you'll get "Gobs" more torque but not much difference in hp... it would just be a hell of a lot more fun to drive... I also quote again from either of the two wise men (illwill or R3d ... i dont remember which) (loosely quoting now) ~"for god sakes people, get the cobra brakes upgrade... for safety".

You can absolutely do a no frills build... but once you start having fun with your 5.4... your gonna break stuff... xmission... rear axel bearings... eat up brake disks/pads like candy... cluches.. start off "no frills" but upgrade a piece at a time... for your baby's sake.

my first 5.4 was a 'no frills' build. i just dropped a nonPI 5.4 with adapter plates into the car. and it was a blast to drive with all the extra tq. the mag said 90ft lbas of tq and 14 rwhp over the 4.6 so if all you can do is a basic build, do it. just goto 13" brakes first then do more later on.

the HP numbers will come WAY up with longtubes but with shorty headers you're capped at just under 300 for some reason (probably dynamic head flow efficiency suffering with the shorty's). So far everyone that has done ported heads, cams and longtubes has made in the mid 300's (330-360rwhp/tq), while identical combos with shorty's have made 260-290rwhp and 320-390rwtq.

horspla: you'll need to cut a small notch in the underside supports of your hood but it won't penetrate the top skin so s'all good. Check out my site for some pics of the choppy choppy. Other than that, all you need is some 5/8" ID heater hose, random fittings (all that is for the heater to work), FRPP or JBA shorty headers, and a hammer.

Well I got my old motor/tranny out. Few minor mishaps, but its all out. Still gotta pick up some hardware, but I think I'm gonna put the motor in by itself, with all the little brackets in place, the ones on the back of the drivers side head suck.

Im kinda wondering what a Mach1 intake would do... thats why... im wondering if a mach 1 would be better then a sullivan intake... its got me thinking lol...

and how would that be on a boosted setup...

for the street... you'll get more tq with the mach intake on adapter plates but the sullivan would return higher peak numbers. I'd go with the mach intake. It's basically a 01 cobra intake which was a helluva good unit.

I'll have to look around for dyno charts. I don't know of any that are accessible anymore.

***UPDATE***

JBA shorties don't really fit on the passenger side. i think i can modify hunters to fit since he has already bought them and only has stock ones as the alternative.

Default Questions on 5.4 to S197 GT Swap

Hello, I am new to this site, any assistance or lthreads is appreciated. I have searched here and several sites, but have not been able to find much information. I have been in Iraq for a while and have not able to do a lot of research.

I have a 5.4L and tranny out of a 2007 Shelby GT 500 and would like to put it in a S197 (2005+) GT. Has anyone tried this yet? Other than different motor / tranny mounts and computer would it bolt right in? I am guessing (hoping) the GT and GT 500 are the same frame / chassis.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Jason

Default ....exhaust

SO what is the problem when you are running long tubes like the stock ones?

I was thinking since it is 1 inch taller (the deck height)
What if you put a 1 inch spacer in the K member would that make the longtubes fit??

or is there some other things im missing?

the motor is one inch wider therefore you have one inch less room on each side. the frpp shorties are the only ones other then stock that bolt right up so i have found everything ele needs some form of modding to fit.

they are the same frame and should bolt right up, the electrical side will be a different story though

Your mounts are the same. Just if you want to use the TR6060, you need a different tranny mount due to the trans location. As for the computer, w/ the new engine, just get it tuned.

how bad is the interference on the JBA's. I was told those were a good fit.

snake, it's a bolt in for the most part. You're going to need a whole new fuel system to feed it though.

By a "no frills" list I meant what you will need to do a swap. By that I mean, brackets, headers/manifolds, "trimming" the hood for clearance, injectors, MAF etc. No offense to anyone, but there are a lot of "off topic" posts on here. I got a little discouraged trying to fine relevant info. I am putting a 97 5.4 in my 2000 GT conv. I plan on putting on PI heads (hopefully a set of Patriots) Hopefully some cams and some headers. I plan on calling that good for now and getting it in there and running and see how that does. Also, why exactly won't long tubes from a 4.6 fit??
