To give you an idea in november we where looking at new years time frame for these new intakes but they have been delayed and delayed so its anyones guess if/when they come out imo. When i emailed them at the beginning of the year they told me 4-6 weeks or something like that...

It does take some time to do R&D on any new product! They could have been some what real about the time frame.
Just going on the design from the 4.6l HPS intake and making the whole damn thing wider would have made me happy. No extra "bigger here, smaller there"

JUST MAKE THE THING WIDER! The intake is a better design in the begin with. JUST MAKE IT WIDER!

Ranting turned off.........thanks!

nobody could have predicted that one of the stakeholders at the casting facility would up and die. There's also a lot more in the works that makes them able to deliver more and better products. I'd hope you guys could cut them a little slack. I understand the frustration but we're all kinda in the same boat. At least they're cast...

since my engine is coming back out i don't mind the intakes taking alittle longer to get them right. i understand that things happen that slow ppl down. i'd just like a teaser or a pic of them casting the pieces.... that would get me all tingly inside....

Thats unfortunate, but I doubt that shut the place down for 6 months...

I'd hope you guys could cut them a little slack.
I feel bad for anyone who actually planned their project around what were obviously very unrealistic claims.....I'd like to see them out but it doesn't really affect me in any way, those who planned a project around said claims and have been left high and dry.....

i think it's more like just the excitment of said intakes coming to the hands of the ones who are almost done with thier projects has everyone jumpy...

OK, this thread has gotten very unwieldy. 146 PAGES??? no one can read all that. It would take weeks of spare time and some serious eye strain to boot.

I would like to make a motion for the creation of a new sub-forum just for 5.4's . A couple of sticky's at the top for the basic swap info, i'd be happy to write a v6-5.4 one.. Am I alone on this one?

My car is in the classidieds and if it cannot bring $9000. I will proceed. Where do you guys have the best luck finding 5.4's? Yards here are expensive unless I am asking the wrong questions as I want a rebuildable moitor not a low mileage unit. Also for my needs a stock intake would be fine leaving the SVO available. That is worth a 5.4 to me! aDAPTERS AND ALL IT WILL LIKELY OUTFLOW THAT hps 5.4 THAT YOU ALL ARE WAITING FOR. I hate this car as is!

why dont we have a roll call on where everyone lives. that way everyone might be close to someone else and not know it. also that way we can help one another.

i'm in birmingham, alabama.

Palm Bay, Florida.

I got lucky with my motor. A guy on the Crown Vic boards was tried of reading everyone's "I will"/I'm Going to" posts and put up one hell of an challange. A Free 2003 5.4 to anyone who would pick it up. He didn't think anyone would take it becasue he thought everyone was just talk. Sure enough, that weekend I showed up and picked up a 100% free 2003 5.4. Score!

cool thing was He had a vortec Supercharged 5.4 Crown Vic that ran 12's.

Central, New York, near Syracuse. I was at the local pick-n-pull yesterday AND GAVE UP ON THE TEKSID BLOCK. YEAH, NOT 5.4 BUT A TEKSID FOR $160. WAS TEMPTING! All I got off that Mark was the aluminum driveshaft for $16. Probably have it shortened and rebalanced for under $100. so a good buy, yoke is the same as the 4R70W also.
I got more from an old Festiva for my winter rat than the Mustang the last 2 months of searching! Now I can get the window up and have a passenger side mirror! Yeah! LOL!
They said that a '97 Navigator was coming in with a bad 5.4, knocks? $125. Worth the hassle of "trying" to pull it? Parts? I would not want to have to get a crank turned.
The sticky with the basics needed for the swap would be GREAT and I think I mentioned that myself a while back. Tough to wade through so much to pick out the important data.
Take the adapter plates, who makes the best? How much? Leaks common? Professional Products has them for $199. and I know their rep but plates should not be difficult(hope not!).

Then I would be interested in such as the intakees available. I know a lot are waiting for the one to come out, don't know much about it, didn't think there was a decent intake for the 2V except the racy looking one. Foorgot the name. How about the stock plastic unit? I have the SVO aluminum that has a lot of work done to it and it is awesome for a larger motor or power after 4000rpm but I am going 5.4 for torque and power is just icing on the cake. My 4.10's would come out for the 3.27's and I might sell the SVO as the plastic has proven to work with the best up to 6000rpm. I am only expecting 5500rpm with mine. I have a set of Crower npi cams waiting here so far. .532"/.532" and 220*/224*. Stock PI cam is around .504"/.531" & 200*/209*(durations are at .050" at the valve) What about 5.4 stock specs, anyone?
Told my 3200/3400rpm converter might be too much but it is a Dirty Dog 10" that locks at WOT 1 second after the shifts and even locks in 2nd gear part throttle and the stockker doesn't even lock in 3rd gear at WOT! Dropped .2 with that change and would not want to lose it. I have the stock unit, rewqorked to a 2800-3000stall, brazed fins and torrington bearings added, worked awesomwe with the stock cams, couldn't hold the tires as they blew off so easy!
I like the idea of the TMD rod and pistons and dropping 2 lbs. from the rotating weight of the crank assembly?! True?

With the next 5.4 I will look at what would the knock likely be, bad rod? Any cranks available somewhere cheap or inexpensive! LOL Thanks guys and anyone near me with a rebuildable PM please.

In a small machining company. I've got a couple of CNC's all wrapped up with CAD/CAM. And a bunch of manual machines. I'm 29 and have been doing this since I was born
Right in the middle of the Bluegrass. And I do have to say it's very beutiful here.

skylark!
find an engine and strip it down! If it has a rod knock, that means a new crack will be needed or you can turn the one you have.
The only problems I have with TMD rods are accruacy. Great for a rebuild, but bad for performance........."IF you are just going to slap it together". Be sure to check all bearing clearances before final button ups.

Bondfreak......FREE? sweet deal

Black GT please define "accuracy" with the TMD rods. How about the other ebay company, Mustang Modular Depot(?)
Don't like turning cranks, who has a new one at a fair price?

To others using adapters whose and do they leak? What gaskets are you using?

THX.

Mine leak on the second reuse of the gaskets. But the reason is because of the rtv I put on to seal one of the bolt holes f'd up the rubber that is on the gasket.
First time around they were fine though. I think the problem has to do with the gaskets shifting during install. If you aren't careful about where you drop the intake you can smudge the rtv around. The adapter plates should have had some holes drilled for the tabs that hold the gaskets.

All that time designing them and they forgot about 1 little detail like that.

OK. Sounds like the gaskets used are Ford products? 5.4 on the head side and 4.6 on the top? Whose adapters did you use, Pro Products? Drilling the holes should not be too difficult. Actualy I had to remove the tabs to get a better alignment for my SVO intake so it can be done if, as you stated, with care.
Another thing is since you have completed this swap is it worth it? Like a totally different car? PM'ing you. Mark

ditto that on the gaskets. I clipped the little spuds off as well.

Anyone just slapping a performance motor together should hit themselves in the head with a tack hammer. Talk about wasting time and money. I paid 1400 bucks to have my motor balanced/blue printed and assembled so I'd never have to do it again.

the heads on the 5.4 and 4.6 are the same, so 4.6 gaskets x2. swap totally worth it, feels like a different car than a 4.6 version. and unless you reeeaaaly need the gas mileage go with a 460.
