1" wouldn't be too big a deal but you'd have to mill reliefs or small windows in it in places. Depends on the machining equipment you have access to. I call it a fairly easy mod.

If 96black wants to do the R&D for us I'm pretty certain that I can get HPS to make the production parts. Hell... if we just get a pattern to HPS they'll be able to cut us up a production run. That's their core competency anyway. Then we can take up the incredible offer that 96black made, and not burden him with a bunch of freebie cut-jobs and HPS gets a sort of back handed thanks from the marketplace for the 5.4 intake with a 5.4 specific blower bracket. You'll be able to get your whole kit from them.

Cardude and 96black54 let's do this thing.

i had to put the motor and trans in together, i just couldn't get the trans in by myself. so i id them together.

question: should i go with 36lbs. injectors or 39 lbs from a 03 cobra? i scored some with harness adapters. which one would work better on NA? new or old style.....

36lbs are plenty. 39's aren't a bad option but they're just kinda big. If your first dyno run shows enough power you can swap them.

Single nailed it... Intake is due out any day now. HPS is burning the midnight oil to get them all done and ready to ship.

Headers are being worked on. I've got 1 company started, and 2 others queued up. In the meantime I'm suggesting that people use the BBK's.

Did any of you guys degree in your cams? I just did with Comp 270 cams and stock gears my cams where way off, RH was 12 degrees advanced and LH was 4 degrees retarded. Ordered a set of adjustable gears today, hopefully they will be here this week so I can drop this pig in.

Wow, that is really surprising... I heard they could be off +/- 3 but not as far as 12... Once you get those in straight-up should make a real difference. Makes me think the cams Ive been running in the 4.6 could have been off by that much. I will definately be degreeing them in once I get them on the 5.4
You can always grind the stock gears to allow for some adjustment. That is why you need to torque them to like 90 ft-lbs, so there is no slip.

What did you use for the degreeing? did you have a solid lifter to use? What did you use for the TDC stop?

The cam that was off by 12 I moved one tooth and got it to withen 6 the oppisite direction.
I used a jegs degree kit and then I bought a flexable arm on a pair of vise grips from Harbor Freight, I used a solid lifter from MMR(i think thats where I got it) and used extension on dial indicator through the spark plug hole to find tdc. The piston stop that came with the kit had jacked up threads so I was affraid to put it in my heads. Also FYI, i used the handle of rubber coated cresent wrench and a drum brake adjustment tool to get followers in and out with out taking cam out or buying a special tool. it was pretty easy once i did a couple times, i got the feel for it.

MMR degreed mine. You can retard those 270's couple degrees for a higher peak tq rpm. Only costs a tiny bit of low end but it makes 20hp peak difference from installing straight up on the dyno sim to 2 deg retarded. Advancing it 2 degrees builds the low end a LOT.

MM&FF found a cobra that was 12 deg off side to side. It would appear that precision ground cam gears ain't Ford's thing.

Hey guys... update on the intakes. It's totally not a date but it's a hint.

I've been chatting with Bob for the last few days on some final machining details and I've had the opportunity to see cad drawings that are very near the final version. I'll can only really say that the feature list is pimpin. It looks like things are a tad slower than hoped but all is well and things appear to be rolling toward a release very soon.

At what rpm did that 20hp come in? And did you run that sim with boost?? Just curious, with my setup i plan on not turning it higher than 56-5800.

I'd like to know as well... I just picked up a set of adjustable cam gears so I can make sure they are centered properly, then maybe retard 2-3 degrees from there.

The HP picks up from about 3K onward and stays with it the whole way. That was without boost. I'll run it for you with 10lbs of boost in the mix tomorrow morning and see what it does. The 20hp figure was at the rpm for peak HP which showed at 5800-6000rpm. Further retarding of the cam timing will push that out further but I can't even begin to speculate on what it'll do to your low end beyond about -4 deg.

The peak gain in the testing I did came at -4 degrees which basically removes the 4deg advance that I understand comp has ground into them. I can't imagine it'll have a huge impact on overall drivability as the ford cam gears seem to be 8-12 degrees off as a matter of course. I've seen diminishing returns in the simulator beyond 4 deg retarded. Advancing picks up the tq FAST and early and reduces the HP peak rpm.

Default More Progress...

I got the 4.6 and 5.4 sitting next to each other so I can start moving parts from one to the other. I moved the heads over with new head gaskets and head bolts, moved over the FRPP high-volume oil pump & pickup, and moved over the 4.6 oil pan.

I ordered a set of adjustble cam gears yesteday after hearing how far off the stock gears may/may not be. Also last night I received a PM from a guy on a local forum that has a set of Comp XE270AH cams he wants to swap for my crane cams. The 270's were a bit large for his build-up. By the weekend, I should have the bigger cams in along with the adjustable gears. I will get them timed in. Probably straight-up for now because I dont want to shift the power band too high... I will be revving 5700-5800 max.
From there, the engine & trans can be dropped back into the car... I'm getting excited to drive my car again. It's been off the road since Dec 1st for the winter.

no real hints on timeline other than the particular details we were discussing related to how far to cut down a couple mounting bosses. That info is only needed for final machining and that leads me to think the day is a'comin.

Shakin... He's aware of your plight and trying his best to make it happen. I'll ping him again for you on that.

For those that have used the intake spacers... how did you seal them off? Did you just pick up an additional set of intake gaskets?

yepper. Get the ones from your local auto parts store or check with randy. My local dealer charged 20 bucks a piece. The local Kragen charged 10 for the set of the same kind of gasket. Check with Randy in the parts desk forum. He always gives pretty good prices. I bought a set from him not too long ago.
