Unclip the MAF (like your removing the airfilter) then....I think there's one screw on top of the airbox that you remove then you can pull out the larger piece of the airbox. Simply pull the rubber funnel looking thing off of the airbox and throw over left shoulder..put it all back together. Don't forget to hook up the harness back on the MAF if you unplugged it.

It one of those mods that sounds good on paper, but probably proves to be pointless in reality. Makes a hissing sound.

The stock air box sucks air from the fenderwall. It is actually a pretty good design. If you pull the silencer out, you might draw more air, but then it comes from the engine bay. I would like to see someone do back to back dynos with this.

I think a magazine did this in a test and gained like 2 hp, so that could account for less stress on the engine from being warmed up, or an actual gain, take it for what its worth. I left mine in as I didnt see it doing anything.

You can trim the air silencer and still get fenderwell air into the engine.I trimmed mine at an angle, about 6inches long on top,and 3inches long on the bottom.I also trimmed at an angle from front to rear.Start by removing the air filter and MAM.Reach inside the air box and pull the silencer out from the inside.Trim so that this opening is larger than the opening in your throttle body. You can also install a high flow air filter, these will improve airflow by about 5-6 RWHP.You can also remove the screen from in front of the MAM for about 5-6 RWHP.Just reinstall the rubber gasket from around the screen. After doing these "free mods"listen for detonation as removing the screen is said to lean the A/F ratio somewhat.I have had no detonation since this was completed on my GT.

Taking the screen out causes the a/f to lean out, so always keep an eye on this.

Nevermind, I just re-read your post and you said the same thing. Sorry.

Probably not.The MAM sensor could be dirty,or it could be the Idle Air Control.Use a spray cleaner that leaves no residue on the MAM.(electronic parts cleaner)and fuel injector cleaner on the IAC.Or you can replace the IAC with a new one.

Taking out my silencer literally took me maybe 4mins if that, i did it the frist day i had the car, just take out that little screw holding in the air box and then just pull off the silencer, BADA BING, and its good for 4 hp and 1 loss in torque, but 4 hp for 1 loss in torqe is'nt a bad trader considering that there's plenty of torque, and the most important part, its FREE and EASY, got that from MM&FF go to their website and they have the whole write up of "Bolt on shootout"......having a bend before the MAM is very bad and it will casue numerous problems in the future, and i have done dynos for the densecharger and K&N, K&N came out on top by 5hp and 1 torque over the densecharger's numbers. :hello2:
