You would need a new Tranny (obviously), shifter, cables, sensors, pedals, etc. With that said, you have a 4R70W, not an AODE. Unlike the AODE, the 4R70W can actually be worked with to make it go fast.

If you really want that 5 speed, you may be better off just trading your car in for one.

It is a pretty big job.I read a how-to in MMFF several years ago and it looked,to me,like a major PITA.The trans in your car can be modded to work very well without a big outlay of $$$.

how much would he be looking to spend though? 3 grand? i'd rather get a supercharger cuz they hold boost better with auto's. supercharged auto vs. supercharged 5 speed, the auto wins- going off the basis they have the same mods.

One other thing. When you get up into the higher HP numbers, especially with gears,an auto is the only tranny that will be able to shift fast enough to keep up with the tachometer needle.

one buying a new car is alot more expensive as opposed to doing this swap.. i did it..for about $2000 i bought a whole converison kit but it used mostly used parts. if i were to do it again i'd buy all aftermarekt parts.. it'd be about the same price but then u can build it to your preferences..if it's too involved for u, then umm maybe u never done it before.. it's not that hard unless u have like no tools.. and for the auto being better than a 5 speed, umm unless u plan on going faster than 8 secs it doesn't matter what trans u use.. X2C has a tremec that can handle about a 1000hp or so... their cars run 8's witha 5 speed..so in all realyity if u wanna do this swap... the car becomes more fun to drive around town.. autos get boring.. and even if it is a fully built auto it's still not as much fun with out the clutch..

Well I'm looking at spending a couple bucks here and there. But I want to get rid of that AOD power loss. I want to be able to hit the gas and go. I want to pick up some power and I'm sure the tranny is the key what can I do to the AOD to get the power back. I'm sure I'm cranking atleast 290 if not 300+ at the fly. I want to put more of that at the wheels.

well u can do that just start stock piling parts in plans to do the conversion.... the hit the gas and go feeling is soo much better with the 5 speed over the AODE i used to have.. those trans just plan old SUCk..there is not one good thing about em, other than the fact that they blow up easy.. but like 2000blackone said u don't have an AODE. u more than likely have the 4r70w.. alot stronger of a trans but fact remains in stock form it's still a slow shifting sluggish auto..

It's can't be that hard to swap parts out of a tranny. I have a lift at my disposal and all the tools to do the job my self.
