Question SCT x3 problems

Hi, got the X3 and JLT cold air intake. I emailed a few people about this, but no response. Maybe they're still doing the Christmas thing. Whatever. Anyway, we installed the JLT, then tried to upload the custom tune. First time, the custom tune wasn't even there. So, we did a generic 87 octane tune, and after a few miles, the check engine lite came on. Said the system was running lean. Put it back to stock and tried the same thing again. Check engine. So, tried the custom thing again, and it got near the end and said "error opening file."

She's an 07 GT auto, only other mods are Steeda TB spacer and SLP Loudmouth catbacks. No mufflers. These mods were supposed to be addressed with the custom tune. I would rather not remove any of my mods to take the whole mess back to stock, and she's my daily driver. SCT is closed until next week, and the guy I was told to email hasn't gotten back to me yet. I'm just damn lucky my hubby's home so I can take his truck to work. I need my car running right, I'll be pissed if there's any damage... does anyone have any ideas here? If we do the 87 octane tune again and up the fuel %age by 2 or 4%, will this help? Until I can get the custom tune working?

Anyone? Please? Thanks!

Where did you get your custom tune from?

Got the whole package deal from American Muscle... they're usually good about everything, but not quick enough for this one. Gotta take hubby's truck, hope this can be resolved before he goes back to work!

Couldn't get any of the software to work on my laptop either. There was no installation cd or anything, had to go to SCT's website, and what a freakin mess that is. No help there... too confusing and difficult. I downloaded everything for the X3, but the program doesn't recognize the X3. UGH!!

Very aggravating!

Haven't heard anything yet. Emailed Nick yesterday... do the tech guys read these forums? If an updated tune would work, that'd be great... but I can't get my laptop to work with it.

That's about the worst possible problem. If you can, try another computer to upload the tune to the unit with. I use SCT stuff and do my own tunes but I haven't been able to play on 05+ cars just yet.

Yup, it's been fun.... lol
My hubby and I both have HP laptops, both with Vista, and the tuner works with neither. It even locked up on his.

Is there another tuner (not SCT) that will work for the JLT cold air?

I'd really wait till SCT opens... Diablo is the only other big player of repute but I've never really liked their tunes. If you can find a predator tuner from diablo for your car and mods then that may be a solution.

Yeah, I really have no choice but to wait for SCT to open. I still haven't heard anything from AM. Seriously debating on returning the SCT, as just the whole experience has left a bad taste. Seems a bit unprofessional to me, the way SCT made the program and packaged it... no software CD, just "go here and try to find the stuff that works... oh if you have Vista, you're screwed"...but that just may be my opinion at the moment! I'm sure it'll change if I get this resolved.

Anyway, I'm rambling... sorry!

Vista is microshafts problem... not SCT's. SCT makes badass software and while their support sometimes leaves a little to be desired I've never had a corrupted tune from SCT but I've seen too many corrupted tunes from Diablo. I'm a computer geek by trade and I knew better than to go to vista. Vista was an eye candy upgrade and little else.

Every time you buy something you need a computer to use, probably should make sure you meet the minimum system requirements.

I would not drive that car until the tune issue is resolved. The 05+ cars are really touchy when it comes to CIA's.

Go to www.modularmisfits.com

Put a post there for a guy named Matt Hill. He is an SCT tuner/dealer and checks the site daily (usually). He might be able to help.

Unfortuntely, there may be a problem with the device itself which would need to be resolved by American Muscle. Tell Matt that WaterDR sent you. I am a member there as well.

This is very much SCT's problem. If they can't put out a program that works with a very popular operating system, it's their responsibility to have the product description state that. It should be very visible and easy to find. The badassness of their software doesn't matter if customers can't use it. This was supposed to be a very nice Christmas present.

I don't care if you're a computer geek, I don't care what you think of Vista, I came here for help for a serious issue, not your opinion of the operating system I have on my computer. I am looking for ideas on ways to resolve this issue, since SCT and American Muscle haven't gotten back to me yet.
If you don't have something helpful to say, please don't post.

WaterDr, thanks for the link. I'm on my way over there. We put the stock air box back in, as I can't be without a running vehicle.
