Default New GT...best mod ideas?!

I just picked up an '02 GT. It's pewter with black leather interior. The previous owner had already put Flowmaster mufflers (not the full exhaust, just the mufflers). It also has silver bullitt wheels and the Mach speaker system, but other than those it's bone stock. I have a 200w Bazooka sub and chrome, 3", angle cut, roll tipped, exhaust tips.

I have some ideas for simple addons...I want a chin spoiler, BLACK bullitt wheels, window tint, black racing stripes, grille delete, etc...

What are some mechanical mods?? Thinkin maybe cold air intake, headers, spark plugs/cables, racing chip (do those things really work??), underdrive pullers, short throw shifter, aluminum driveshafts, coil springs, control arms, etc...

Any ideas/suggestions are wanted...anybody??............

grab some search action and you'll see answers to all those questions.

to be brief:

chin is good, black bullits are overdone, the rest is your bag.

Mechanical:
cai=looks only
headers= long tubes or nothing at all
plugs = don't worry about it
chip = get a custom tune on a dyno or don't bother
shifter = good
driveshaft... meh take or leave
springs...read my sticky in suspension and make an informed decision about suspension

Suggestion... search, read, decide, then re-ask.

best mod for the buck staying n/a wise was my off road H-pipe. It dropped me i believe 3tenths in the 1/4 mile and made my car sound better. I got it used locally and only cost me 70bucks. Best mod ever for the dollar for a bolt on n/a car. That and my drag radials made me dropped another 3 or 4tenths cant remember.

Chin spoilers are fun and a nice easy mod to start with. Try trading your rims for someone else that has black ones. You could prolly find an even trade. OR, if you buy them, get deep dish. They are a bit overdone on the boards, but not in real life.

Mechanical:
cai=They don't do too much. Stay away from off-brands and try buying used.
headers= a complete waste of time and money unless you have plans to add a supercharger or turbo.
plugs = no need.....they will do nothing.
Wires = You car does not have wires.
chip = Depends. Custom tune on a dyno is the best way to go. But on a stock car, it won't do much. Mail-order tunes have marginal results at best but people like to play with the devices.
shifter = great mod!
driveshaft = Waste of time unless you are really making more power

Yeah I've had a aluminum drive shaft sitting in my garage for almost 2 years. Its so much larger in diameter then stock that it bangs my large Mac mufflers. I should probably sell it or something by now lol. I didn't feel much a difference when it was on the car. But any lost weight especially rotating mass such as the drive shaft and brakes etc... is good stuff to drop.

Default awesome info...

right now it has stock pipes, but flowmaster mufflers and chrome tips. i really wanna drop all that and put a full SLP loudmouth 2 catback system in, maybe get some MAC long neck headers...but dang, that takes $$$$ and i'm just a college student! haha

i do wanna add a short throw shifter (not sure which brand yet), and maybe some new (tighter) gears...what's a good number? i see them ranging from 3.70 up to 4.30 and higher?

but all in all...what i'm more interested in is overall additions to a stock GT. what all i've listed might be way off! what are the best (budget) mods for a stock GT, that'll give good results/style for not too much $$$

I would go hooker lt, o/r, magnapack or slp catback, and atleast 4.10's. But for the best bang for the buck will be a 100 shot and a dyno tune( and maybe a svt focus pump from randy for under a 7-800 to drop off a sec. and gain 10 mph cant beat it.)
