If you have an automatic tranny, the answer is TORQUE CONVERTER.

Hands down.

Then rear gears.

would a new torque converter honestly add performance to a stock auto GT? because i have a pal with a 00' Silver GT automatic... i told him he should get some 4.10's in the back. I dont know alot about the available torque converters, but would he feel that more than new gears? How much one a good one cost?

If it's an auto, you absolutely cannot go wrong with a good torque converter and some tall gears. Talk about give the stick boys fits at the track!

What year stang do you have? I'm guessing it is a GT. What mods do you have now? Also a auto or a 5 speed?

-Do gears for sure, but make sure you choose wisely. If you don't drive your stang on the highway or you don't plan on adding a blower do 4.10. If you do highway or wanna supercharge get 3.73. And finally if you want to turn some heads get 4.30! (Oh and you could use this as an excuse to get a chip or a handheld tuner)

-Exhaust will help a lot! Get rid of those 6 cats!! And mandrel bent tubing will help a lot!

-A timing adjustor and underdrive pullies wouldn't hurt

-Pro 5.0 shifter makes banging through the gears much more fun!

-Last thing in terms of 1/4 mile times I would look at a some rear suspension upgrades, start out with a minimum of lower control arms and remove your quad shocks. Then think about a panhard bar and other goodies like that!

Ditto on this, and get rid of those factory catalytic converters; whether you use an H-pipe or an X-pipe is a matter of personal preference.
Except that an X-pipe adds more horsepower than an H-pipe. :laughing7

x-pipe will give you hp up top and h will give you hp down low.

And with 4:10s (which was my first suggestion for mods), you spend a lot of time "up top"; that is, it is much easier and quicker to get into the upper RPM band with 4:10s. :headbang:

I didn't see anyone mention Throttle body and Plenum. I realize it might cost a little bit more than a un-catted midsection pipe, but doesn't it have about the same gains as an X or H-pipe? Not to mention all across the powerband.. Just curious, I'm intrested also.
