96 GT overheated coolant on the ground now seems fine WTF help please...
Ok i got a 96 Mustang GT with 80k on it.. I've been letting my girl drive it the last few months because her car blew up..
Well she pulls in last night and comes in and says i noticed the car is overheating smoke and coolant was all over the parking spot.. So i figured hose or the radiater took a ****.. I go out this morning fill it up and start it looking for leaks, i can't see no leaks anywhere.. I let it run for 10-15 minutes no nothing take it for a drive still seems fine.
It runs 3/4's of the way up but its still in the normal section of the guage.. It was almost 100 degrees yesterday and she was running the AC but WTF happened??
How did the coolant escape??
What should i be looking for she works 1 hr away and i don't wanna send her out without knowing the problem is solved??..
When i bought this car 2 yr ago my cousin told me it will run slightly warm in the summer with the AC on in stop and go traffic because it has underdrive pulleys but i don't know **** about mustangs really..

so she says there was coolant all over the parking spot and the car overheated.
did YOU see this parking spot? could it have been from a different car?
do you see any evidence of coolant escaping from the motor?
white smoke from the exhaust?
oil in the coolant?

No it defintely came from the mustang thier was some even under the battery in the holder.. It was wetter over on the fill cap side and look dry on the passenger side..
Have'nt noticed any smoke or coolant anywhere near the motor.. It lost alot of coolant i'd say all of it because the filler was empty.. I'm just stump'd
It was very hot and she drove over 1hr then sat in the mcdonalds line across the street with the ac blasting.. I just don't know from where that coolant escaped from, its crazy.. I'm about to go drive it again it did'nt lose any water i put in it...

I don't know if she drove it hot or not hell she does'nt even now lol, women it might've happened in the drive thru... She noticed it when she pulled into the parking spot that it started to steam and fluid starting pouring out from under it and she shut it down.. It was getting ready to storm yesterday evening so i did'nt mess with it till today..
If it gets really hot can the fluid escape from under the cap??
IF ITS A THERMOSTAT i'll change it but i wanna know where the fluid came from its baffling..

OK I DROVE IT TO THE GYM and on the way home i cranked the AC and went through a drive thru the guage never really went outta the normal reading but was 3/4's up, but it always did that and i assumed because of the pulleys..
I pull in to park smell coolant rush to open the hood and fluid is bubbling out from under the radiater cap..
I'm not sure if the cap is bad or it just ran to warm and had no where else to escape but under the cap.. But the way it was bubbling it seemed to be running hot but it never steamed or went outta the normal zone on the guage..

get a 180 degree thermostat. that should fix your problem.
the filler cap is doing what its designed to do. i broke a belt one day 3 blocks from my house and the needle went close to the red and once i stopped fluid was pooring out from the engine bay.

So you think the thermostat is bad??
Where is it exactly on this car is it off of the big hose right in the front the 2 bolts facing up??
If so thats a great design most cars have them clustered up into the back somewhere..
lmk thanks..

if you boil over a stang you'll instantly have a rather large and stubborn air pocket in the motor. It'll be a giant hot spot. You need to find a copy of the burping procedure and burp your cooling system to make sure there's no air in there. Also replacing the t-stat isn't a bad idea.

I have a 97 gt
The same thing happened to me about 3 years ago at around 75,000miles
took it to the dealer and they replaced the radiator cap and it has been fine ever since. mine also runs a little to warm 3/4's when i am heavy on the gas on a hot humid day.
