The chip stores four tunes and you can shift it on the fly (in most cases). You don't use the flasher with it.

I have one, so ask away if you have any questions.

With the Mods I have listed in my sig. Do you think its worth getting the 4 bank chip? How much More HP do u think it will give?

Also, Cause I am "car knowledge limited". Where Exactly does the chip plug in? Where is the computer located if it goes in there? Once I plug in the chip do I keep it in there foreever? cause I would have the "Stock tune" and the performance tune i can switch back and forth to? I am thinking about this mod for my B-day in July...lol

A chip is worth getting on even a stock car.

You canhave 4 seperate tunes burnt into the chip, Nitrous, High octane, low octane etc. A stock car can see as much as a 15-25rwhp gain from a performance tune with premium fuel. Ford tunes their cars for the masses, not for performance.

Its a great investment.

If you have a 5-speed very good. Auto's are bit more complicated, especially if you want your shift point bumped up a bit. It can be done, but i would recommend auto guys get a dyno tune. Lots of stuff to mess with in the tranny. Clutch fill rate, lock up rates, shift points(mph AND rpm) etc etc.

So you think it would be pointless to jump on a dyno tuned chip? Mail order just as good?

I just got my gears and a sct 4 position chip. I got a 87, 89, 93, and a "my friend wants to drive my car" tune. I haven't tried it out with none of the good ones(93) cuz I have a tank of 87 in it, but all the stuff it did (no more traction control, no mils, no speed cal) is worth every penny. I really like the 4th tune, it won't let the car go over 35 or 2500 rpms, which ever comes first, so when you valet park them punks can't take it for a ride.

I think a dyno tune is sort of a waste unless A - you are having a problem or B - You have mods that could benefit from one such as cams, nitrous...

Adam answered your first few questions!

The chip plugs into the cars ECU which is located behind the passenger side kick plate. It is sort of a pain to remove, but I can do a swap in about 20 minues cause I know what tools to use and I have done it about 10 times now. Otherwise, be patient and give yourself some time. When you are ready, I can give you some pointers. But, you do need to remove two inside body panels. The chip actually plugs into the ECU. I fyou can install RAM on a PC, you can do this!

BTW, the 2005 ECU's are located under the hood and are easy to reach.

The chip can store THREE Tunes. When you have the switch in position 4, it actually bypasses the chip and uses the stock tune off of the ECU. I actually think this is a good method because it is difficult to corrupt the stock tune.

Dang, now I wish I had jumped on MTs special back in Feb when I coulda got a mail order tune for like 225...oh well, lesson learned. I think thats next. I just think I could get a lot of my car from tuning it with the off road pipe, and intake plenum/tb. Thanks for the help.

Well I knew i shouldn't have ventured into this forum so deep. I was trying not to get performance befores looks, but mine looks good to me. So at the risk of sounding like a dummy I have a few questions:

Is this the same as those programmers for your chip? or is it a completely different chip? Chips and Programmers give you the same tune, but how they upload the tune is different. A programmer most download the tune to the ECU while storing your stock tune in the programmer for later use. While a chip physically attaches to the ECU. A chip can store multiple tunes and you can switch back and forth. A programmer can not. A programmer can read and clear codes, a chip can not.

will this void any warranty if a problem comes up? A chip is more likely to void a warrenty. If warrenty is an issue, do not get a chip. For that matter, if warrenty is a big issue with you, don't modify the car at all IMO.

I have 3100 miles on my bone stock 04 5 spd manual GT. Is this enough miles on my engine. (I have let it loose a few times, not quite relined a few gears)Miles do not matter. You are well past any break in period.

Would this be a noticeable HP increase for romping through the gears (you know, just stepping on it from time to time).Honestly, no. IMO opionion, 15 hp will more likely be fealt with your wallet then in performance. But they are still good mods.

Thanks for any advice from you guys. my car is my daily driver and I don't have to put many miles on it to and from work. (3100 miles and have had the car for 6 months). But I sure would love a little extra kick in the pants when I step on it. I am already thinking about a higher gear ratio for the future. BTW what is a stock ratio for 04 GT. I'm guessing 3.73's.

I think a programmer (Diablo or SCT) is the best option for you. They don't void warrenties, though you need to put the stock tune back on before you take the car in. The unit can grow with your car assuming you have no major mods planned in the future (blowers, etc...) and you will need either a chip or programmer when you get gears. I say go for it.

Thanks for your patience, and advice, :toothy10:

Im happy with my 4 position chip. I get better gas mileage using my 87 octane tune with whatever gas. Better mileage than i ever had even when the car was stock and even after putting in the 4.10's. I dropped 3/10ths in the quarter after putting the sct mail order in.

I mostly bought it to calibrate my Speedo. but after it shipped i read and found out my 97 speedo doesnt calibrate off it. I had to buy a dallas mustang calibrator anyway. I have a nitrous tune also, and no ping to be heard unless i run 87 octane and have it on the 93 octane setting. That lets me know that the thing does actually does something.

it was worth buying
