Default 96 - 04 mustang gt's thread of basic knowledge everyone should know!

ok after going through about 20 pages of threads alot of people ask the same questions over and over.. i amde this thread so people wouldnt have to post a thread with same question on it someone else made 2 days ago lol these are just a couple questions ive seen and anyone feel free to add to this!

what is the stock compression ratio of the 2v gt?
96 - 99 gt is 9.30:1
00 - 04 gt is 9.74:1

which gears are best for my car 4.10 or 3.73?
4.10 for auto and 3.73 of maual, also buy a bearing kit with the new gears it will save you a big headache later on.

my car is stock what are some good bolt ons to start out with?
exhaust, cai, x-pipe, gears, udp, t/b and plenum, diablo or sct chip

what should i do next after that?
depending on the yr of your car 98 - 96 should swap out the heads and intake for PI heads and intake, 99 and up already have them. Throw on some cams and long tube headers and port the heads!

i cant think of anything else right now, if anyones got anything else to add post it

no matter what you post or say or all the info you write, there will be those that will ask the same questions already on this forum. there can be a thread about what's the best gears, and someone will make a new one asking the samething.

the compression ratio's are wrong ps. the 96-98 have one and 99-04 are different.
i belive the late 01-04 have a slightly higher compression then early PI headed (99-early 01) cars also. Not sure why this is. But i can find out.

Totally subjective and dependant on cars use.

The rest is ok though, except a CAI is pretty much worth a few hp at most.

I can't speak to 96-98 CR's... I don't remember.

99-01 supposed to be 9.4, 02-04 should be 9.6. Doesn't really matter since the changes were hella small. The real changes were to the valve train and intakes.

In any case there's been a lot of debate about what the CR actually has been at any time. It's above 9:1 and less than 10:1.

I think the biggest reason people don't see much HP gain with a CAI is because many times it's the very first thing done to a car. Get a bigger TB, plenum and open up the exhaust and put your factory intake tube & air box back on and see how much power you lose.

From my experiences at the dyno... 3hp on a 2V, 10 on a 4v. Still not worth it for GT's. Barely for cobras. Looks value is worth all the cost though. Stock snorkel looks like azz.

The factory airbox is irrelevant once you remove the silencer.

The stock snorkel tube isn't much of a restriction. Just replacing it doesn't usually get you much of anything.
