Default auto to manual trans

A freind of mine asked if I would help him convert his 2004 GT from a auto trans to a manual. It's not his primary car so he can be without it for the time it takes. I ofcourse asked the obvious. Why not look for a manual, sell and buy. Well that's too easy. And why not look into other options such as manual valve body or a different auto trans. Again too easy. His point is that he got the car from a family member for pay off and it has less than 12K real miles. Tools, lift, late nights, pissed girlfreinds, none of this is a problem. But this is not my area, so I told him I would ask.

Apart from the obvious, has any one done it and just how bad is this going to be. I know it will take a pedal assembly, trans, hardware from trans to pedal, flywheel, blood, sweat, tears, cursing, you know the usual. But what about the drive shaft, trans mount, the other important stuff. He has always helped me with my mods so I'm kinda obligated. But I like to know how deep the water is before I jump. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

It's gotta be at least, at least a 2K mod even with a stock 5 speed and doing it yourself. There was a nice write up in one of the Mustang magazines about the swap, I believe it was in a fox body, but still I'm sure it would help. I'll try and find it.

A friend of mine did the swap on his and said it was not fun. Now he's got a c4 and a 410 stroker pushrod in the car. Good luck with the swap, I'm so lazy I'd just pull my go fast parts off mine and sell it and buy a manual car.
