What is considered BAD gear whine? what causes gear whine? If i can just barely sorta hear it, where does that stand with the degree of whine?
if u hear anything louder then ur stock gears (which should be nothing) then its too loud. sounds like that shop cant install gears. 2 problems already

If you can here it its to much, care your car back to those homo's and tell them to fix it. I drove mine to many miles, and the gears developed a wear pattern. So until I can afford to replace them with some more 4.10's I'm stuck with a loud *** whine.

does the whine indicate a possible problem? or is it just annoying?

noise is bad, that means two things hitting each other, not good

you can throw your noise theory out the window . when u take gears out, put em back in, tighten things up, spin em, etc. youll get noise. who cares. let em whine

my '05 had a high pitch whine for a bit after the new gears went in.....wasn't overly annoying, and it eventually went away after a few days....I guess it comes down to whether you can live with it or not if it continues.

Go really fast in reverse You'll love the sound coming from your gears after that.

This is not necessarily true!! It really depends on the type of gears you use? Some have a more aggressivew cut and stronger material. I had FRPP 3:73s and 4:10s on mine and they where quite like stock, when I did a complete rebuild on my diff. new eaton posi, axle etc; I went with Richmond gears based on my mechanics recomendations an them things WHINE!! :wallbash: but according to my installer they take a beating. If it wasnt for the money issue I go back to FRPP 4;10s
