I have an o/r x-pipe with the new flowmaster super 40 mufflers. Car now sounds great and load. And it also has the raspy tone to it as well. Although many cars dont like to challange me as much, the car sounds excellent and dynos have proven that more horses are gained from a non catted exhaust. The question that lay is would you chance not having your car with cat exhaust and which exhaust you you prefer?

 

i have the same set-up. sounds awesome!!!!! i do not think that it is legal though, at least not here in mi.

Dump the cats. I can't wait to do away with mine.

i love my off road exhaust.... i'm just gettin kind of tired of the whole dumped deal.. i think i want my tailpipes back...

 

I still have my tailpipes with my exhaust just not a one cat on the whole thing.

And yes it is illegal to have an exhaust with out cats. They provide the emission control for our lovely environment that we smoke up with our v-6 and v-8 pounding engines :headbang: .

I HAVE THE FLOWMASTER 40'S AND I'M CONSIDERING A X-PIPE. The state of Minnesota used to have a yearly emissions test in the 7 county area around the inner citys of MPLS and ST.PAUL but found that 95 percent of the cars passed the test so they dropped the inspections. Although I could get away with running with no cats I'm tempted to purchase a x pipe with cats in case I trade vehicle in. I think there is still a nice horsepower gain due to aftermarket pipes larger mandrel bends and having 2 less cats than the factory pipe and the aftermarket cats generaly flow better than factory units. I would like to see a dyno comparison of the same newer mustang,one with x-pipe with cats and then unbolt it and re-dyno with same brand of x-pipe with no cats and see how much horsepower difference there is. Fast fords and Mustang magazine claims theres hardly any difference and recommends going the legal route. I do realize though for some of you there is a cost and weight savings for the off road version,maybe a tenth of a second difference?

a longer life, better gas mileage, and kick @ss sounding.

 

You could always go with the SLP X pipe. You can leave the cats of if you need to pass emissions, and then take them off for the rest of the year. That is the route I am going to take.

 

there are several inspectors in every city that will gladly pass your emissions for an extra $10.00 in their pocket. Just go to a performance shop and they will help you with finding someone to help you with that.

 

My car has to go to emisions soon, by mid february i believe, and around here in CT we no longer hae one or a select few facilities that do emisions testing, almost every auto shop can do it now, after a few incidents involving paying people off and such. Did this solve the problem? absolutely not, in fact i think it multiplied it. As of right no i do believe one of my cats is crushed, no leaks, but it is damaged, so my car actually might not pass as of right now (no codes or anything, i just think way too much) so that would be an awesome excuse to either just cut out my first to cats and replace with straight pipes or get a new catted pipe... fun =D

Ok, this is gonna sound really stupid, I'm sure...But what does "off-road" mean? And then the second question I have, I've got a V6 that I'm thinking of throwing a SLP Loudmouth onto(V6 adapter kit from here), would I be "better off" doing an o/r h or x pipe with it...? Oi, I wish I knew more about this stuff... :sad7:

 

"Off Road" - Sounds like it means were going 4x4ing with our buds dont it? no, it just means that its only for use at shows or on the trac, not on the actual roads. Obviousely if we put it on our cars were driving aroudn with them *gasp* illegally. There is debate as to the existence of the hole in the ozone and all that jazz, it might have been there for thousands of years! Another less set of cats wont hurt THAT much... does EVERYONE take there used oil to the proper waste facility? i dunthink so... Not that i am anti-environment or anything... yeah

Yes... everyone does when they get their car gets inspected, but a lot of inspectors will allow your emissions to pass if you pay them or if someone knows another that will pass it. Not hard to find one.

 

ok Beatthebrat, you said that you have a v6. In order to use an h or x pipe you will have to mod your exhaust by using a y pipe coming from your headers. from there you can use an h, x, or prochamber.

And when you use off-road, you get a deeper more noticable tone. Gives your pony a nahhh or growl if you call it a beast. If you want more of a raspy deeper tone use an x-pipe or prochamber.

 

My X pipe will be a catted SLP

Alot of tests show a loss of around 1hp from a high quality catted pipe compared to a catless version. I'm in so-cal, so even aftermarket catted x's are technically illegal even though they will pass the sniffer (just not the visual). For me the cats are insurance against a cop looking under my car. And if I play dumb I might be able to get it smogged.

 

MI don't have emissions test...HAHAHA... i can leave my O/R h pipe on all year...HAHHAH i love it....

Y, you m*#@^** f*#@#*s! If you know the history of emissions testing in IL, it's largely because you MI panti-wastes complained the prevailing westerlies from IL were polluting your precious air in MI. Shame on you!

as for my car, just had the emisions test today, passed, yay! and so did the Sebring Vert... not there is a reason either should fail but i was worried about that one cat, lol

 

Personally... I wouldn't take a chance.. Especially around here.. The cops check everyones cars when ever they're stopped... Not having cats here, is a $10k fine for just the first offense... then doubles...
