NMR, computer guys, any thoughts on this?
First off, im not interested in hearing DELL SUCKS, or anything like that. i have always had a positive experience with them. Im willing to entertain the idea of other brands if the price is right.
Im doing a lot of video editing lately. Im using CS3 premier pro (unless anyone has a copy of CS5 PP i can have lol)
When putting video together if using more than 2 HD clips the preview plan gets real choppy, makes it a bitch to synch audio espectially if i diddnt put an audio marker in the recording to reference. I think i may just need to finally upgrade the PC.
Here is my old PC
Dell XPS something or other
Dual core 1.86ghz, i think 800mh cache,. 4 gigs of ram, 250g hard drive,
For about $550 i can get the following. Tower only. I have the rest of the **** already,.
Inspiron Desktop 560 Mini-Tower
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E7500 (2.93GHz,3M,1066MHz,FSB)
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium
1 TB SATA 3Gb/s Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/ 16MB DataBurst Cache
8 GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1066MHz (4 DIMMs)
16X DVD +/- RW w/dbl layer write capability
How big of a step up is this processor wise? would this be a good deal ? should this be able to handle premier pro and the previews a bit easier?

I have that same processor in my Dell. I dont know if it'll run what you listed, but its a pretty fast *** processor for the $. And **** the Dell haters..for $350 I got the core 2 duo 2.93, 4G ram, W7, 640GB HD and... My 8 year old P4 dell still works great too.

I just got a refurb'd quad core 64bit with 6GB RAM and a 750GB drive with a GeForce G100 for 350 from best buy. Came with everything... wifi, hdmi, dual video, dual layer dvd burner. Even Dell has bitchin deals in their refurb line. That's the route I'd go.
As for steps up... it's a whole nuther world. multi-core 64bit processors are nothing like their 32bit hyperthreading kin. These are serious processors. You CAN NOT feed a modern multi-core computer enough RAM. Especially if you're into media editing.
Hang on... I'ma find you a quad core for cheaper.
Here: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+Fac...&skuId=9852527 that's a nice one.
But here: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+F...&skuId=9721104 that's the one I got.

^^^ That would be the way to go.
My secondary tower has the E7500 Core 2 Duo and on CS4 and Pinnacle Ultimate Studio it does the same thing you're talking about with 6gbs of ram.
I'd be looking at that HP r3d pulled up, or buying yourself a cheap mobo/processor combo that has a higher end quad core and just putting it in your case that you have now.

I don't know **** about the techy computer stuff but I bought a HP desktop 64bit quadcore with 8gb ram and it's been able to handle everything I have been able to do flawlessly but I haven't done and type of video processing.

Check this site out, it will tell you whats best for doing the video editing your wanting to do. I got this link from our Systems Editor that has built a kickin system recently.

I would make sure you are running win7 x64 bit Pro and then you can go above the 4gb limit... And a hefty video card. 1gb memory cards are pretty cheap I have 5 I ordered the other week for our business office sitting behind me yet to install.

Id say if you had PCI-Express x16 ports on ur motherboard, upgrade powersupply and add a decent graphics card and that will solve alot of problems.
Or if you wanna justify a new pc get a new one, that has a decent graphics card.
A good graphics card is at least ATI/Nvidia, not INTEL GMA or VIA or anything like that, those are just 2D cards.

A high-end quad-core with 8gb of DDR3 would be killer! That'd be my choice no doubt.
DDR3 ram is expensive too, and that quad-core would be good for years to come. Good find.
