I know android phones have something similar, but it's nowhere near as nice as this one.

Yeah that is cool, but I really don't know how often or really for what purpose I personally would use that for. I know WinMo has something like that as well. Maybe not officially through Microsoft, but you can get it. But again, thats an app. What about the phone itself?
The only reason the iphone has those apps is because SOO many people buy them. The android market has had more apps created per day than itunes' app store for a while now. So if its apps you want just wait til the android market dwarfs itunes.
To me, honestly, it's a sort of fashion thing. Almost like wearing a business suit all day. Even though there are better phones out, most people still think they're the purest **** in the world because the have an iphone. Most customers I speak to that have iphones are big d-bags (not saying you guys on here are), but 90% of the time it holds true.

If people quit using the iphone and instead switched to android phones then all the apps would go too.

I would love for someone to do a test where they take the iPhone body, but have it running a different OS and they do a survey and tell people its Iphones newest upgrade. See what people say. More than likely the average user will say they love it and not know any better.
And I know it's dumb to argue about electronics and all that since it's pretty much personal preference, but it's nice to see feedback.

Yes but the apps are what makes the phone. It's just like computers.
Linux is a far superior operating system in every way to OSX and Windows. However, most people will never use it? Why? This is because the best software is produced for OSX and Windows. For example: Linux can run GIMP. OSX and Windows can run Photoshop.
This is the same thing with the iphone. Sure, android might be a better platform but right now I can find all the apps I want on the iPhone and at the moment there's no guarantee that they're all on the android phones. This will change in the future as more developers switch to developing for android (which they will) but I don't see myself switching for at least another year.

That's what I'm doing as soon as my new phone comes in. To pay extra a month for those apps to be on your phone is really that convenient? I don't think so. My ipod is usually anywhere I am anyways. Hell, usually I play the apps on my ipod while listening to the music while i'm texting someone, so actually being able to truly multitask like that requires me to have a seperate phone.

My friend posted this on Facebook, when I saw the pictures and read the details, I was like "OMGWTFBBQ" It looks so sexy. The new features, front camera, zoom, flash, high-res screen, etc... I bought my iPhone in mid Jan and I'm about to buy my friends for $180, give it to my gf, then in may when she gets an upgrade, she's going to get the Backflip and give me that as a trade.

Fair enough. At least you gave me an explanation why. I think though for the most part, for the average everyday smartphone user, they have nothing to do with most apps. They see Apple and are look ohhh I must have it cause everyone else does. If it truely is the apps that make the phone, then I see the iPhone in trouble in the near future cause those apps are so easily ported to other platforms. Lots of the 3D games have already been ported to webOS with their new PDK kit. It's just a matter of having the inventory in peoples hands to actually develop for. Like I said before, I don't care what people have, but it bugs me when people jump on the bandwagon and kiss Apples ***, but dont really have a damn idea why they are on the bandwagon to begin with.
Nuff said.

ill say this as a FORMER Apple hater.... I got the ipod touch...its badass...period. and... I noticed the corner of the screen on mine would move in when I pushed it andwould make a little click noise... other than that it worked flawlessly.. I took it in to the Apple store near me today and showed them. They handed me a new one and I didnt even buy my original one from them. Customer service FTW!
Ill still never buy a Mac tho.

My wife has an iPod touch. PLayed around with it many times. Does not make me want to switch to AT&T for an iPhone. And know what? If something attracts you to the phone or you couldn't live without it, then clearly you should have an explanation. I can say why I love my phone or other things.
