Default iPhone...

i was looking into buying one...and my question is, aside from it living up to its hype, is it worth it?
i've read reviews left and right about it and most negative comments are from people who were angry that the iphone doesnt do everything.

I don't have one, but I would say it's a pretty good all around phone if your going to be surfing the net and putting music/movies on your phone. If your more of a business person though, I've heard blackberrys are better. My wife has a backberry curve and hardly ever puts it down.

reports coming out today that the 3G phones are developing cracks. i wouldn't get one because you can't tether it to a laptop for internet access. plans are also way too expensive for it, maybe get an unlocked 1st gen and use it on another GSM carrier.

I've had the first iPhone for about 6 months now and I would say I'm very happy with it. I dropped mine on a concrete floor once and the screen didn't respond but I went into apple with a good story and they replaced it for free.

Now that apple are letting people make apps for the iPhone it makes it a ton better because it really opens the doors to what you can and will be able to do on your phone.

One thing you should look into is if you have good 3G coverage in your area. Right now it is really only around major cities and if you are going to pay for 3G you should make sure you can use it.

As far as the plans being too expensive, it is comparable to other phones available.

I would never use it to it's capability so it wouldn't be worth it to me. Someone who needs/uses a phone with all its features, it may be worth it to them.

I'm kind of the same way....I would never use half of the features, but it still is a pretty cool phone.

You should be able to get the LG Dare on a family plan. I have Verizon and I have the Voyager on a family plan with my wife and she has a blackberry curve.

A treo has been my companion for a couple years. Does everything the iPhone was supposed to do, plus I can tether it to my laptop as a modem via bluetooth, and install network aware applications (pssh, opera, etc...) and PalmOS actually does all the things it's supposed to already. The only sacrifice for me against the iPhone is the smaller screen and a less useful web browser.

The iPhone seriously disappointed me. I was hoping for a fully usable implentation of OSx with shell access and the whole bit. Not the stripped down ethiopian version of it with no OS level tools.

why are you trying to get a phone under your brother's wife's plan?

on a side note, i've been scouring the internetz all afternoon trying to find a decently priced 1st gen phone (they can be used on tmobile, my current carrier, after unlocking for relatively cheap) and i havent had much luck.

anybody looking to sell their old one and upgrade to 3G? :P

yeah ive been reading up at modmyifone.com, turns out with tmobile you can use the 5.99 unlimited tzones plan for unlimited data

at first i really wanted 3G for the GPS, but now i'm not so concerned with it. i'd really like access to google maps on my phone though and there are many other things that the iphone has that i want, app store and overall internet access being the major ones.

iphone is shitty.. I have the old one and i like it better then the 3g... i bought the 16G WHITE 3G and returned it the next day and switched to 1st gen. look at my thread in show shine etc about the antennna the phone took those pics and they are shitty... u have to buy ringtones from itunes for 2 bucks.. and u cant do **** unless u jailbreak it and when u do that its soo glitchy it will make u switch back to stock. go with the Moto Q or BlackJack II

lol, if you made it "glitchy" then you did it wrong. i know plenty of folks who have an unlocked/jailbroken iphone and they have no problems with it.

yeah, the SUBSIDIZED price. meaning you must sign a retarded contract with ATT paying at least 60$/mo. ill be using it on tmobile for ~20$/mo with all the same features, unlimited data too. l33t haxx ftw
