all of em are pretty much the same unless you find one that blocks out the known false alerts by way of gps. cobras get a bad rap but if you got a gps unit that goes with it its better than any radar detector. do some research on that one

Valentine 1. You wont find one for $250 though. Save up a bit more and just buy one of those.

For that budget the best you can get is this one. If you can save more the V1 is where its at. I've had a few different ones and the V1 is the best. But for the price, that Passport 8500 can't be beat.

The valetine is a bit much for 400, the passport looks good though. Does it work well?

Edit: I looked at the passport ones again and im curious as per why the ones that are red/blue are so much more than the normal ones. Also the one that says red thats $200 and the normal ones that are 150$, whats the difference? I dont really see one o.O

I have. but now im just making sure. Cause at this point if i get any kind of ticket for any moving violation in the next 2 years, i lose my liscense.
Edit: I like the 8500 and 50x so far, but i dont see any difference besides the price of it. BTW are beltronics detectors any good? My brother just bought one for around 300$ and im waiting to hear how it works.

8500 is bad ***! I've had it probably close to a year now and haven't been pulled over once for anything. Whether I was speeding or not I've know about a lot of speed traps well before I came up on them. I love that thing, I always feel safe with it.

That passport 8500 is a very good detector and is usually alot more money. They refurbish them back to new basically and you get it for dirt cheap. The top passport models are usually the ones that compete with the V1.The 8500 used to be the top model they had.

Unless you spend a good amount of money on a radar dectector you might as well not get one. My wife works with a ex cop out here and he was telling me about that.

Hate to triple post, but id really like info on it. I gotta make my decision tonight, so should i go twith the 8500 for 150 or go to the x50 for 200? Info appreciated. The only difference i saw is that the X50 detected POP radar, whats that?

dude, if you live in Texas you need a V1.
Period.

I've been through all the other ones, and you'd be better off using those as suppositories, cuz they're worthless.

Get on craigslist and get a used V1 even.

do it.
do it.

+1 Far as I'm concerned, the Valentine 1 is the best self defense device since the single action Colt revolver.

I've always wanted a Valentine 1 and no I've never got caught for speeding.
I was just on E-Bay looking up some for the Poster and wow this is stupid.
If it's $400 and everyone else is charging around $400 + off E-Bay, what the ****.

I am curious what the pop means.

Its a new system the radar guns have. If the other one has POP and the 8500 does not, get the other one.

http://www.007radardetectors.com/pop_radar.htm

read that, it's important.

KA band, Instant-on and Lidar are the only things that really matter out here. All motorcycle CHP use lidar and all cruiser CHP use KA band. Most every other department uses IO for bike cops and KA band for car cops. Over the hill performance and high resolution at greater than 1/4 mile are the secret sauces as far as I'm concerned.

Note that even with lidar most radar systems in use by police can't get a good or accurate reading at >1/4 mile away. Lidar is accurate at great range but is normally hand held and they can't hold steady enough to get a solid reading on your grill until you're pretty close.

My secret, don't ****** speed. 5 over and call it a day. Tickets take 14 minutes to write, speeding saves 5 minutes or less. Do the math and leave early.

Yeah im gunna, its just im a new driver and if i hear the detector go off, i know to double check what im doing. Any BS ticket and im screwed so im just making sure. And yeah i bought the x50 with the POP also, lil bit more but i figure if i buy something that sucks im screwed.

Having the detector is only half the battle. You can't just drive like a jackass now and not get a ticket. Be smart when you speed and don't stand out and you will be fine.
