Okay, so theres two cars in town capable of a fair race considering year model and mods. 1999 mustang GT, 5 speed with a 4.6 explorer engine with an all aluminum block, VS a camaro ss, 99. it has a stock LS1. who wins? I cant stress to him that in a drag u only use soo much distance and a LS1 has no advantage over a mustang say 0-120, GM's big difference is speeds that u dont reach in a normal drag. Help me explain this.

 

the LS1 will take the mustang...bottom line.

i hate LS1's thats why i boosted my car so i can beat majority of them rolling around on the street.

 

LSX>4.6soch all day...even N/A dohc 4.6...and many S/C dohc 4.6 as well.

too bad the LSX lives in so many ugly *** vehicles.

 

well yeah i know that, LS engine is my fav made, im not arguing on the horsepower, its just the camaro never seemed to have a body like the mustang. cept back in the IROC days, those ate fox's. but like now, the camaro with a ls3 at 400hp crank, is less than a second ahead of a mustang with 300. Thats what im getting at.

 

Mustang will get whooped on, no matter what race they run.

 

You mentioned a 99 GT and a 99 SS, where does the new camaro and mustang come in? The 99 SS will beat a 99 GT stock for stock all day long. The camaro's weigh a lot, thats why it's not all that fast, but a LS motor can be modded very little to make big power. Back in the day the IROC's looked like *** and weren't all that fast. IMO, the Trans Am WS6's look way better than the older camaro's.

 

The explorer block is going to drop 100lbs-ish off the front end so it'll handle a lot better than it used to and it'll even accelerate faster but it's still not sounding like it's a real match for the SS. They're 1sec faster out of the box through the 1/4mi.

It'll be a really good race but I still see the mullet-mobile winning regularly.

To me this is kind of an unfair race to begin with. What I mean is a SS against a GT. Thats kind of like me with my mostly stock GT trying to race a V6 mustang, or a '03 Cobra wanting to race me. They are two totally different cars. Now if you took a '99 Cobra and raced a '99 SS then it would be a fairER COMPARISON so to speak, and I still think that even with THAT race, the SS would still win it.
