Almost anything can void part of the warrenty. If the mod caused the failure, then the warrenty may not cover the work.

I put mods into three categories when it comes to warrenty issues:

1 - Mods that definately blow warrenties: SC's, Turbos, Nitrous, big cams. These puppies are also obvious and hard to hide.

2 - Mods that will or might void a warrenty, but easy to hide or remove: Gears (sure they can cause problems, BUT, not readily obvious), catbacks, plenums, TB's, CAI's.

3 - Mods that can blow warrenties, but everyone does them so who gives a crap: X-pipes, catbacks.

Sure, there is some over-lap.

Also, it depends on the shop and your relationship with the shop manager. Also, FRPP stuff installed at Ford dealers I think don't void warrenties.

Bottom line, if you care about your warrenty, limit your mod work to rims and catbacks.

I bought my 2000 in 2003 and paid for an extended warrenty. A few months later, I cancelled the thing and got my money back. I used the money to buy more mods. I got the warrenty ONLY to protect myself for the first few months of ownership. I figured, if the car was a dude, I would know within the first few months. That warrenty might have saved my butt. I got about 90%+ of my money returned.

Warranty work here is WAY too much of a hassel here.. definately not worth it when I can buy the parts at cost and do the work for free. The local dealership denied me warranty work before I ever even had a mod done.. and they denied it because they screwed something up previously. They cut out the back windshield to replace a leak, when they did they didn't put the headliner back on right. I took it in to get it fixed and they told me that THEY did not cut the back windshield out and somebody else had done it so they would not fix it! I got the service sheet and showed them but at that point I did not want them touching my car. They also messed up the oil plug when they changed it, they replaced the Mach460 and broke the new one while putting it in and didn't fix that one. I hate my warranty. It's pointless, so I modded away

Nope.. I meant to but just never had the time to do so. The service manager was the guy I was speaking with the whole time!

Working for a big dealership I can chime in on this one.

Half of the time, its the service manager who makes the decision, and the other half, its going to be ford, gm, mopar, or whatever else vehicle you have that will be making the decision on warrenty work. If one dealership denies your warrenty work, move to another. Most of the time youll end up getting whatever you need to have done.

The thing is, be as calm and understanding as possible, and you will get farther. Whos going to give you slack when you are in their face and yelling? If you dont like their service, give them a bad rating for their CSI but make sure you know what you are doing because they do check them and they know who rates what because its available for them to see.

I would also like to add if you have frpp on your vehicle installed by a certified ford mechanic (with proven documentation of installation) your warrenty isnt voided.

I would only yell if they messed it up, it could be proven that it was THEM that messed it up, and they would do nothing to fix it. Then Id march my happy little hiney out, and get on the phone with ford.
