Extended Warranty????
Hey guys, my 3 year/36,000 mile factory warranty is about be up here in the next few months and I'm debating on whether or not to extend my warranty. What do you guys think, is it worth the extra cash??
P.S. The only additional mods I plan on doing are an x-pipe, throttle body and plenum.

Tell me about it dude. I just filled up this morning at gas was $2.75 a gallon! Ouch.
I was thinking about just tacking the extended warranty on through the Bank I financed with and that way it would mean a couple of more payments at the end.

If you have the option of extening the warranty and have the means to afford it you probably should get it.
The best case scenario is that it will be a waste of money.
However, if you dont have one and find you need it, you could possibly be without a car for some time depending on what the problem was.
My rear main oil seal was leaking, (man that sounds wrong), anyways, it was covered by the warranty. Damn good thing too, they had to remove the transmission in order to fix it. Without the warranty im sure that woulda racked up a nice beefy bill. I still had to choke out 160 for them to cut and remove a portion of the exhaust that i had custom done. but without that warranty im sure i woulda been paying 700-800 more.

They saw i had a custom exhaust and a K&N cold air intake and they diddnt care. As i said in my previous post i had to pay for them to remove a part of the exhaust, but the rest was still covered.
I talked to the service manager and he said Cold air intake, Plentum, Throddle Body, and catback exhaust dont void the warranty, couple other things as well.. Im sure that varies from place to place. best thing to do is call em up and ask. You can always replace the stock stuff before taking it in anyways.
if you take it to a dealership to fix it and they give you crap about any mods voiding the warranty, take it to a different dealership, they might do it.

there is no way a warranty company would attempt to void your warranty by just cold air intake. with the mods i have(in sig), ive had a few repairs and they havent been mentioned. I also plan to get the throttle body/plenum combo, and i know thall be fine for the warranty. It just sucks bc i cant chip the car, and il love to do that. get the warranty. You'll(probably) be glad you did. As you said, best case scenario is just a waste of money but u dont know if youll need it.

I've taken my car to dealership several times and they have never said anything about any of my mods. The way I understand it is that if you are having a problem that could be caused by the mod then they can void your warranty, but they can't void the entire warranty based on a mod. The Federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act prevents dealerships from voiding entire warranty based on a mod.
I'm thinking the extended warranty is probably a good idea based on what everyone has said. Thanks

As for as I know, I cant. I know with the chip, you scrape a sticker off when attaching it so they can know there was some funny business. but i dunno where the tuner plugs in it or if its worth it. I wont even rish the warranty for only 20 hp. Now if it was 30 or 40, then prolly yeah..
and youre right about what will void the warranty

Buying an Xcal or a Predator will not void your warranty, so long as you put your stock tune back onto your car if you take it in.
Both the Xcalibrator and the Preditor copy your stock tune so you can put it back on your car if you need to, and all you have to do is plug them into the OBDII port underneath your steering column and push a button.
Chipwise, im not too sure if you can do much to place your stock tune back on there...personally, I think your better off just getting the Xcalibrator with a custom tune. You get to keep your stock tune and you get a programming cable that you can hook up to your PC...who could ask for anything more.
