Default Shooting At My School: Two Dead.

Earlier tonight there was a shooting at my school. I live in an apartment complex right across the street, but I don't know yet exactly where on campus it took place. What I've heard/read so far is that there are four suspects, one in custody, atleast three people shot and two dead. Classes are canceled tommorow (today now I guess). One person I went to highschool with saw it happen and my friends say he's not doing too good. I didn't even know about it untill a friend of mine from my hometown called and asked what was going on. Someone we both went to highschool with that lives on campus told him about the shooting through texts, word gets around fast. All I heard were the sirens. So now I have two cops parked outside my apartment, one diretly behind the stang so its good and safe. I'm sure I didn't know any of the people who got shot or were doing the shooting but still its crazy.

www.UCA.edu is the schools website. I will post up some news articles about it when they become available. http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/10/27/...ngs/index.html

Sorry about that man, I know how crazy and hectic that crap gets. Your entire campus in is my prayers.

Thanks, I found out why the two cops were parked right outside. I read just a while ago that there was a suspected second shooting (rumor), and that it took place at my apartment complex. Nothing happened here though. But my Mom is going to wake up and read all this stuff on the news and give me a big dramatic call. Man this is close to home.

Yeah, I know how it goes...sort of. Early last year in my senior year of high school there was a stabbing outside of my classroom. Mental kid stabbed some random girl 17 times, freaked us the hell out. The cops were there, the news was there, all of that. Just text your mom in the morning saying "I'm okay" or something like that. I know when the thing went down at my school, everyone was really jumpy and edgy. But I know that when I sent that text, things at home were cool. So keep your composure, and good luck talking to your parents about this.

Well the phone call came at 6:01 this morning.

They have caught two of the four suspects, none of which are students at our school, and one of the guys that got shot wasn't a student either. The non-students on campus is becoming a bigger and bigger problem at our school. There have been articles in the campus newspaper about how non-students on campus only cause problems and it is 100% true. Why are these people here at 9:30 at night if they don't go to school here, live on campus, etc.? We have an open campus policy and it would be almost impossible to keep non-students off campus but this needs to tighten up. We constantly hear about non-students getting pulled over on campus and then getting arrested on possesion/DWI and all that. And although I don't know the reason for the shooting yet, the fact is that four people who shouldn't have been here killed two students and wounded another person who is a non-student and shouldn't have been here.

Cool, I have friends that go to both of your schools. And thanks, the mood around town has been pretty drab, as expected. Things just suck around here at the moment.

My sister went to school at UCA several years ago and off-campus students were a problem then. They are usually on campus to sell drugs to students and such. And being a mother myself, I would say that your mom would have appreciated a phone call before she had to hear it on the news, but that's just me. Glad your okay.

This has been a big problem for universities, and actually all schools in general for the last 2 decades. And it only gets worse in the workforce. The only difference is the randomness of it. At school it's usually an outsider or an outcast from the get go. Then you usually have a copycat thing in another state that makes the news.

In the workforce it's usually a coworker you thought you knew pretty good.

You can't predict what will make someone snap like that. But you really have to be on your guard at school or at work, even with people you know.

In the workforce you will find many coworkers who are either married or in a relationship. And this can lead to accusations, and jealousy, just like in school, except it's at higher level now. We've had 2 shootings since I've been working and they were directly related at a spouse that also worked there. But they were both murder/sucide types of shootings.

At our break area believe me we watch for this and I just hope I can get out of the way, cause you ain't gonna stop a fanatic by being in the line of fire..

I didn't find out about it till around 10:00 and she was already asleep, I didn't want to wake'em up. Plus if she saw me calling she would think something was really wrong, I don't call much.

Haha, yeah that prison is right beside the school. I've been there a couple of times to visit friends and its funny how you can wave to the guards and stuff. My mom works at a prision and it is less than a mile from the Highschool and Middle school that I attended.

Probably a good choice not to call that late but I know how we mothers worry, it's a hazard of the job.
