Urethane is probably more expensive. That and fenders, roof, trunk, hood, etc all need the stiffness of fiberglass. Urethane is too flexible and flimsy. The bumpers are urethane for impact resistance on most cars not for ligh weight.

Also ever since the vette came out it has been a fiberglass body and maybe the buyers want to keep it that way, I really have no idea.

In my mind ford is going to have to keep the weight down on the mustangs in order for it to somewhat compete with some of the new high power muscle cars coming online in the next few years.

In all reality, I'm sure Ford did everything they could to keep the weight down. The main killer was that the engine is an iron block. It also doesnt help that being bigger displacement means bigger[almost] everything. And with a car that'd be so heavy in the front, they might as well just make the back heavy too or else it'd drive like absolute crap. And thinking about the price too....it costs alot less than a Z06 so less time and research was put into making it as lightweight as possible. Look at the Z06...100 hp more and 100 lbs less (among other advancements)than the reg vette...THAT makes an extra money worth spending.

The GT has an iron block too. I really doubt there is much weight difference between the 5.4 and 4.6. Maybe 100lbs at most.

actually the 05+ GT's sport the aluminum block. So the weight difference between an aluminum 4.6 and an iron 5.4 would actually be quite a lot.
