Default Intake Manifold.

Ok, so I am going back to "newb" status for a minute. As you all know I have a 99GT, I am about 99% sure that my intake manifold has a crack in it. So, i am going to replace it this weekend.

Now my question is, with my model do i need the PI swap, or does anyone know where I can get a good aluminum intake to get rid of this plastic crap?

NOt looking to break the bank on this one, my grandfather in law can get a kit with gaskets and aluminum intake for $250.

anyone?

they sell them here for very cheap brand new. And all 99-04 Gt's have PI heads so all you need is a new manifold. ALso for anyone else wondering 99-early 01 have the plastic crossover. But i have heard of some early 01s that did have the aluminun crossover somehow.

Sweet, I didn;t know MT sold them or I would have looked there. Hell, their price is $60 cheaper than my grandfather in law's discounted price from NAPA!

I'm about to call MT and see if it comes with the gaskets and everything.

Mine cracked a few months after I got the car...3 yrs ago. I got one off ebay that was from an 03 Mustang. Anyway the whole thing was plastic again but it had the aluminum crossover by the thermostat. I think I bought it for $70 and had the hook up at the autoparts store so I got 30% off all the gaskets I needed. Mine is a Ford part also and not an off brand.

While it was off I cleaned all the parts I couldn't ever get to really good like the fuel injectors. I don't know if you have taken the top of your motor apart yet, but it isn't that bad. I did it by myself. It took me several hours but just take your time and make sure you get everything on there good with the new gaskets. If you run into any problems let me know and I will try to remember if it is something I ran into as well. Don't forget...I put little pieces of cloth in all the openings once the intake is off so garbage didn't fall into the motor. Good luck.

Yeah, I saw that. Crazy, but the founder of the BMC has one on her Gt (with 623rwhp) and it's holding up fine. Guess there is a bad apple every now and then with them.

I really wish I had the money for this one: http://modularpowerhouse.com/product...d79bda78aa40de

on the PP intake problems... the leakers were a very limited batch that had a super minor flaw that had to be experienced to be accounted for. That flaw has been fixed. It's a good replacement for the stocker. I'd be checking out a Hardball'R from HPS as well. Both the PP and HPS intakes are good for NA cars.

The Reichard intake is best left for blown/turbo cars.

Its Mr. Tech, himself. What are the symptons for a cracked intake besides leaking coolant?

To go way back when I replaced my thermostat I kept having problems with leaks around the t-stat housing. Then I kept thinking that maybe I just didn't have a good seal of liquid gasket around the housing. But, since then about every 2 weeks I have had to add antifreeze. Just a couple days ago I noticed that when I am sitting at a redlight/stop sign, once I start to move in 1st a small puff of white smoke would come out of the exhaust. Also, when starting the exhaust sounded sluggish. So, last night I got to looking real close around the tstat housing and I notice that there was some dried antifreeze around the housing so that lead me to a damn good chance of the intake being cracked.

depends on where the crack is. You'll notice stumbling, over heating, CEL's w/ codes saying a lean condidtion on one or both banks, sudden power loss at around 2800, 3450 and 4400rpm under WOT compared to normal, strange wistling sounds and of course coolant where it doesn't belong.

Cold startup will be shaky sometimes depending on how big and where the crack is.

forgot... surging under part throttle can be a sign. Basically anthing you'd see if your IAC were stuck open plus cooling issues.

Yep, I had all of those except the CEL, plus the puff of white smoke at start up and from a standstill to 1st gear acceleration. Also, listening to my ehxaust I could hear a random "puff" (for lack of better descriptive word) in the sound.

the area of the t-stat housing was thin on a few early castings and it had been found to crack when snugged down. That's been fixed and I've seen the newer models which are substantially thicker in that area now. Hate if you want but it's a decent intake for a decent price and PP has taken issues seriously and made fixes.. they're decent guys.

Yeah, it's a great place. Only bad thing is now that I have to get this intake, that puts a big slow down on getting the TB plenum!!!

as far as I know, she hasn't run it yet...she just built it right before mustang Week 06

she did run a 12.67 on her old stock motor/trans/S Trim though, which had approx. 400rwhp
