Exclamation Cobra vs GT sway bar

I am looking for a rear sway bar for my mustang. I have a choice between a bar from an 01 GT and a bar from a 98 Cobra. I will not be buying an aftermarket bar.

I believe the Cobra one has a slightly larger diameter than the GT bar. I have also heard a few stories from random forums that the Cobra bar tends to break.

And they are both in similar condition (low miles and no damage). I do not race the car, so performance is not my concern. I want to buy a bar that is going to last the longest.

Suspension gurus, please chime in! I want to make the smartest decision.

In fact, any rear sway bar fits. The SN95 cars just had a different bend in the bars.

For which bar to choose, the sway bar choice depends on your wheel rate, and thus your suspension set-up. If you post up what springs and dampers you have, as well as if you have any control arms or what sway bar you have up front, I'm sure you'll get a quick answer from r3d or someone else.

yep. you will.

putting on the one that'll "last the longest" is not going to help... you put the one that's going to not **** up your handling. The front of your mustang would tend to dip a lot harder than the rear in a corner. If you need more bar anywhere it's up front. Adding rear sway bar stiffness will make the rear end get loose easier in a turn and that's really rarely needed on a mustang, they do that fine out of the box thanks to the aforementioned front end plow and the rear end lifting a bit.

From the pic of your car you're not running a really aggressive spring if any aftermarket spring at all. I'm going to say, stick with an 01GT bar.

FWIW, I use a 93 cobra bar. It's a complete sissy upside newer ones. Don't need any more, but I run a stiff rear spring too.

Yeah, all suspension is stock. rockin the 4x4 look. I was hoping bassman, red, or maybe 01FR500 would chime in. It looks like I am going to just go for the cobra bar. It is freshly powdercoated black. And it has only 3500 miles on it. Thanks for the help guys! I knew i would get some in depth answers. I appreciate it!

If suspension is stock then stick with the 01GT bar.
