Default swapping ecu's

for those of you who have swapped ecu's in your mustang what have you done about the mileage reading? The car I bought had 160,000 miles on it and i swapped everything into it from my 40,000 mile wrecked car including the ecu since it had a tune on it for my cams but now my mileage reads 40,000 and im wondering if that is going to be a problem when registering the car or getting through e-check

I believe the mileage is stored in the cluster not the ECU. You should just be able to swap the clusters and be all set.

that would be nice then i could just switch them back and forth to pass echeck and stuff. But im not sure if this would work cause wouldnt ppl who buy aftermarket clusters show 0 miles? Can anyone confirm this

Aftermarket cluster don't come with the odometer part. You have to remove it from the stock cluster and then install it on the aftermarket one. Would be nice if you could go back to 0.

When you swapped everything over did you also swap the cluster from the old car into the new car?

ya because my old cluster had led's in it so it was blue when on instead of the green, and it had the chrome rings around the gauges.

You can removed the odometer from the cluster that has 160,000 and move over to the other cluster. Here are the instructions from Simco. Hope this helps.

this helps, does the cluster have anything to do with the comp or the keys? Cause I swapped everything over, even the keys from my old car now work my new car

You bring up a good point. I forgot about the PATS. I don't know if that PATS is part of the odometer circuit board or part of the gauge circuit board. I would think if you just swap the odometer board you would be ok but to be honest I really don't know. The PATS really throws a wrench into the works. You may want to just give it shot and see what happens.

If you swapped the 40k engine into the 160k car you should be good by my reckoning.. but I'm not familiar with any of that stuff that they test to make sure the odometer wasn't rolled back or whatever..

And getting back to 0 is easy
Just drive a lot until it rolls over lol
