Default Need help with a PROBLEM

Hey yall
I need your help with a problem. Ok to start i have a 66 mustang coupe that i have converted into a shelby clone. I have installed a mustang ll front suspension. I have built and installed a 1969 351W between the fenders. I just installed the 67 style Shelby hood for the 65-66 model. On the motor i have installed a edelbrock RPM intake that is regular height, no spacer. and topped it with a holly 750 vac sec w/ electric choke. And heres my problem, I have no room for a air cleaner to fit. i only have 2 inches of room at the most. Has anyone else here had this problem? Does anyone know of a drop base that will clear a vac sec system, neither proform or K&N fit, already tried. CUTTING a hole in the hood is not an option.
Thanks for your help ahead of time.
Craig

Unfortunately this is a late model forum, so this isn't the best place to look for help. However, it sounds like to me that the Mustang II crossmember raised the engine a couple of inches. My suggestion would be to find a way to lower the crossmember. If a 385 series can fit, your little 351 shouldn't have an issue, unless it's been raised.

When i took the measurements for the motor placement i usesd a mock motor with a oil pan attached, if i was to try and lower the motor any the oil pan will interfear with the crossmember

I dont think i can lower the crossmember height, Unless someone here knows how

Hrm I don't have a clue with the older mustangs. A relative of mine has a 66 or 67 I'll see if he has any idea and post up if I get any useful information

How about a carb hat? You'll probably have an easier time finding one that will fit.

Something like this:

Those are really only used for blow-thru applications.

My suggestion to you then is use a 351 block w/ the Cleveland deck height and use a lower manifold, such as the Performer. However, there are better forums out there for the older cars in which they can help you better. Ford Muscle is one of them.

True, but it'll be easier than swapping the motor.
