Unhappy I have problems and questions. Help!

Ok so let me start off by saying that this is the first Mustang I have owned. I bought a 2000 Mustang GT and it didn't come with an Owners Maunal.

There are some things I am worried about.

First of all, my battery light flashes while I'm driving. What is causing this and what does it mean?

Secondly, this Mustang has been tuned with an SCT flash tuner. I didn't do it so I know nothing about it. But I think it is giving me problems. The problem I am encountering is when I shift, my RPM's don't drop. And yes, I am taking my foot off the gas pedal. But I don't think it is supposed to do that because none of my previous cars that were stick shift did that. So I am kind of worried about this. Does it do this because the tuner messed with the settings so that when you shift you don't lose RPM's, or is there something seriously wrong with my car?

These are all my questions I have right now other than do I have to go to a Ford dealership to get an owners manual or is there somewhere else I can get one?

Thanks for all your time and help

You can take your car to autozone or advance auto and have the battery and the alternator tested while in the car for free. Those are the two most common problems for the light coming on. Your throttle could be sticking or the Throttle position sensor could be messed up for the engine problem. Again, these are the most common problems for the engine to run high rpm's while running, so it is best to get it checked by a reputable shop because so many things can cause it. Lastly, if you have a salvage yard in your area you may be able to find a book there. You can also try e-bay or amazon.

Yo Blackvenom, welcome to the board man!

Ok sorry to hear about your probs bro but the good news is that nothing sounds TOO serious.

Like the other guy said, go to Auto Zone (AZ) and have them chack the battery and alt.

The high idle is from your Idle Air Controller or IAC, it is a known problem with our year models to have this happen. Hell my car has been doing the same thing for a long time. It does it off and on. Now the key thing about this part is this. IDK why but everyone says that when you replace this part to ALWAYS get it from Ford. I HAVE heard of guys getting it from AZ and doing fine with it. But they SAY get it from the dealer to be safe. Now you can ALSO take the IAC off and clean it with carburator cleaner. thats just a temporay fix but it will get ya by untill you can afford that Stealership price of the part LOL.

Now as far as the SCT tuner goes, I would be finding out more about this one. Did you get the tuner with the car? What kind of modifications are on the car? If its just got the usual bolt ons then its not really a big deal.

Hope this helps ya man, and again. . . Welcome!

The rpms not dropping is normal. Ford for some reason doesn't want the engine to rev down quickly while shifting, as compared to other cars. If the rpms were shooting up while shifting, then I'd worry.

As for the battery light, that's usually indicative of the battery or alternator.

hey silverbullet! thanks for the advice i really appreciate people tryin to help me out. anyways to answer your question about the tuner, yes the tuner came with the car but the screen is broken so i can't see anything. Fortunately, I do have the owners manual for that and it is really easy to change things back to factory settings and I am tempted to do so as soon as I get some other things taken care of. The only mods on the car are the tuner and a custom dynaflow exhaust system. other than that everything is stock. I don't know if I stated this earlier but the car won't pass emissions because of several computer errors (P1151 and P1131) and the Catalyst and Evap System moniters weren't ready when I had it inspected. As for the codes, I had several shops look them up as well as a Ford dealership told me what they might mean. They all said that it is more than likely a sensor that is causing these errors, possibly like you said with the IAC but I need to get it offically diagnosed which will be tomorrow then I will kno for sure. But there might not be anything wrong with the sensors at all, it may just be because the tuner has messed with the computer settings so I really have no idea until I dig in. But anyways I just thought i would let you know to see if you have any ideas or thoughts.

Thanks for you help =)
