Lightbulb Questions about a motor swap on 95 GT!!!!

Like the title says, I have a 95 GT auto with shift kit and 15K miles on it and in great condition. I want to up the ante on HP and I'm looking at a few options. I've run into a few motors for sale including: 98 cobra, 03/04 cobra motors. I am really interesting in both swaps. Of course I would rather make the 03/04 swap but I have many questions to be answered.

First: If I made the swap to a 98 cobra, would I have to change a lot of things on my 95, including tranny?

Second: If I made the switch to the 03/04 motor, would I need a new tranny for it, new ECU/wire harness, new exhaust setup, new rear end to support the HP?

I love the exhaust setup I have now, but I LOVE the 32v sound. It is heaven in the ears.

I'm a noobie to the whole swap thing, I just want to know other peoples opinions, experiences, troubles and so on.

I want to know for either, how much more I would have to change besides the complete motor and possible tranny?

P.S. Yes I know the second picture is of a Saleen, not a Cobra. But you get the idea that was just another picture from the same place I'm looking at engines.

To start, you need a 96-04 k-member which means 96-04 tie rod ends and spindles. As for the trans, yes, you need a 4R70W since the AODE doesn't fit the Modular blocks. The rear end should be fine though, since it's an 8.8" but 31 spline axles would be a good upgrade. Lastly, a computer and wiring harness change would be the easiest way, since the EEC-IV computers use different style of connectors than the EEC-V computers so instead of adapting the old, just put the new in. Personally, if you want more juice, throw in a 351 w/ Cleveland heads. Little more work and cash but you have heads that flow better than 4V Cobra heads.

I'd have to agree on the 351, much less work, more potential.
But if you're determined to have a 4v check with these guys, www.karkraft.com. They have complete 4v 4.6's cheap.

Ok well after all that info, what about a swap for a 95 cobra engine? How much would I need to change. I don't know why I jumped to the 98. So what about the 95. I am assuming almost everything would work except my question is the ECU/wire harness and tranny. Or if that won't work, what parts CAN I utilize from a 95 cobra(intakes?) to make my GT faster?

Dont think of it in terms of a "95 cobra engine" Its a Windsor or SBF or whatever you want to call it. The tranny will bolt up, you'll have to get it tuned but everything else should go on like it came off.

Don't bother. The Cobra's engine was just a better breathing 302. Just do a head, intake, cam, and exhaust swap and you got something better. A 351 swap is cake though, since the aftermarket supports it and the fact that a 351 is a 302 w/ a taller deck. Just I suggested a Cleveland (or Clevor which is a Windsor block and Cleveland heads) because Windsor heads suck, period, but Ford has yet to best the Cleveland head in a small block size. Swapping a 351W just requires a new intake, exhaust, and tune. Just remember these things when it comes to heads: 302 heads need the bolt holes enlarged to 1/2" to work, Cleveland heads need coolant passages drilled, and Windsor and Cleveland heads have different ports so matching parts are needed. Also note that many 351W blocks are non-roller, so if you want a roller one, you need to stay in the 90's.

Again, thanks to aftermarket support, swapping a 351W is like putting in a new 302. A 351 Clevor though requires a bit more work because intake and exhaust options are limited, but the power is worth it.

No point in swapping a modular motor into a 95 and old car. You need the cluster, wiring, tranny, K member, and other bullshit to have a stock motor in your car. You already have a v8 with tons of aftermarket support and parts. Go get a set of heads, intake and a cam that matches that setup and it will rock.
