This is like asking what catback is best or what intake is the best. Your gonna get many different answers and none of them are really wrong.

Royal Purple, Redline oils, Amsoil are all great oils, but all cost a lot of money. You can go with Mobil 1 which is a great oil too for less money or the new Castrol GTX syn is great too. Honestly I mean you can't go wrong with any oil as long as its the correct weight and if you ask me go Snythetic and change it every 7-8k miles and you are good to go. Don't fall for the old myth of 3k miles and change your oil. Oils have progressed a long way since the 50's and 60's.

Yup, pretty much correct. If you're looking for oil that you can pick up at your local Auto Zone then Mobil1 (full synthetic) is the oil for you. Be prepared to spend about $50 +/- unless you find it on sale. Amsoil, Red line and Lucas are all great oils, but harder to acquire and typically about $2-3 more per qt. I have no experience with Royal Purple, but I've heard mixxed reviews, some love it and some hate it.. That's pretty frequent with all oils though.

Personally I tend to stay away from Valvoline, Castrol, Exxon, etc.. I'm sure they're comparable, but I just haven't ever used any of them.

That's another one I have always liked is Valvoline. Their new oil blends they have out are supposed to be very good from some tests I saw. I kinda want to try their new oil out and see if I get the better mpg they claim. My driving style never changes because I always do work. I can say this I have only used Mobil 1 in my car and my old sprayed F150 and I have never spun a bearing or the like with either motor. We always used Valvolines boat oils in our merc and our old Evenrude 110xp motor and even with it bending rods etc.. that motor still ran smooth.

FYI Mobil 1 has a sale on their oil right now for $10 off. Checkout their website for the coupon.

I was for a long time a firm believer in Castrol. In the past year or two, I have swayed towards Amsoil. I run Amsoil in my Probe and even in the wifes minivan. The thing I like is it's supposed to be good for 1 year or 25K miles. None of our vehicles see anywhere close to 25K a year. The guy I bought the Mustang from ran Mobil 1 in it, and I am not sure if I will change to Amsoil or not. Wal-Mart has Mobil 1 for about $6 a quart, and I can get Amsoil at $7 a quart.

I remember when Walmart had 5 quarts of Mobil 1 for $20... The good days...

Really, just like any mod, it depends on your wallet. You have the cash? Grab the best stuff. I'd recommend Redline (synlubes.com has the best prices for it). Otherwise, Mobil 1 is what I grew up w/ and run personally (except in the trans and diff).

Use the above info and you won't go wrong. Remember to always stay away from the 99 cent stuff unless you're cooking french fries.

I don't believe there are any proven benefits of running Royal Purple over any other top synthetic. I've never found the data sheet for it so I can't speak of it's properties compared to Mobil 1. I'm sure it's just as good. I use Mobil 1 because it is a top tier synthetic and is easily available.
