Default Have an EGR issue.

Well my car threw the P0401 code (insufficient flow through the egr). So I cleaned out the egr valve making sure the valve itself didn't have a build up and the code threw again. I decided to the check the vacuum pressure on the line that raises the valve in the egr and it was rather weak, almost kinda sputtered, but had a rhythm to it. It has full line pressure before the egr vacuum control system, but not after it. My question is should there be full line pressure pulling the egr valve? Heres a diagram to of the parts I am talking about. http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...layCatalogid=0

I'm trying to determine if I should replace the vacuum control system or replace the DPFE sensor which seems to be a common factor for this code. I don't wanna spend money on one and it be the other.

EDIT: My car runs no different since this code. I have read of rough idles because of this code, but no problem here. Just a CEL.

Hey Sean, if all the vaccum lines are good and the electrical conections are clean then replace the DPFE. This code is one of the more exact ones. I have had this code on an Explorer, a Thunderbird and a Mustang. The DPFE has fixed the problem on all three.

Thanks for the info Tuff. I'm gunna take the DPFE off and blow it out with my air compressor to it to see if that makes a difference. I have been reading the metal ones get a water build up and begin to rust which can cause them to go bad. I have to go check if I have the metal one or the plastic.

Can I get a new DPFE at a parts store or is this something I have to hit the dealership up for?

Never go to the dealer first. Always go out and search the web for the best price on parts.

I have always used AutoZone, I think thier parts a little better than Advance. I know both places have them. The one on the Exploder was metal but the replacement was plastic. Yea the only problem youll see with the car is CEL.

Thanks guys. I checked around earlier and $30-$40 seems to be about the average cost. Gunna call a couple places tomorrow, find the cheapest, and get that damn CEL to finally go away.

If nothing else you could delete the EGR system.

DPFE. I had the same code on my 3.8L and replacing the dpfe did the trick. I got mine at autozone. Works great.

Actually thought about that, but don't have a tuner to turn the egr off. Just easier to replace a sensor if that's all it is. If it ever gives me more **** in the future that bitch is coming out haha.
