Hey guys

Just got a question,

on my 84' carb'd civic, i rebuilt the carb last year cause my float sunk. I have new fuel pump, new filters and such.

anyways, this is the issue... sometimes when im driving around and im in 1st or 2nd gear as i hit the throttle the car starts to accellerate as normal, then ill let off the gas, push in the clutch getting ready to shift, and the engine starts to rev for 1-2 seconds. I dont have a tac on the car, but by the sound of it the RPM's jump by at least 1000-1500 then die back down.

does anyone know what might cause this?

 

oh yah, one more thing,

i notice this on the lower RPMS because i can hear it happening, im not sure that this is limited to first or 2nd gear, roadnoise could be drowning it out on the higher gears.

seems like it revvs lightly whenever i push in the clutch

Just kidding, my only experience with carbureted cars is making my dad's camaro KEEP RPM's... It always used to die before we tuned it right.... I should say he tuned it right

was i supposed to keep those hoses then?

lol..

those hoses were so fuggin rotted up, i had to replace most of them. and i had the wrong hose size on some so i used some zip ties to tighten them up. lol. i did end up replacing them though, maybe i just need to go and recheck them all.


any other ideas or is this most likely the culprit?


oh yah, still averaging 39mpg.. lol...

What kind if carburetor are you using?

 

And they say EFI is better. I'll take a carb any day, even if it means slightly less low-mid range power.

 

Get some compressed air in the lines with soapy water to see if any are leaking.

 

Even easier is to spray the lines w/ carb cleaner while the engine is running. If you have a leak, you'll notice a change in idle. However, this method does get messy and isn't accurate if you have multiple lines right next to each other.

 

What kind of carburetor are you using, Jack?

 

accelerator pump setting. adjust.

Like a 4412? I had one that had a vacuum leak once. I ended up plugging the vacuum line with a screw and layering it with duct tape. Wish I still had a picture of that. It was quite the jerry-rigging.
