Default Blowing smoke, issues, need some help

Ok ,

so i got my car back from the bodyshop, they did a pretty good job too. However while they were banging and monkeying around on it they triggerd the fuel pump cutoff sensor. Apparently it took them a day to figure out how to reset it and they got it all figured out.

So i pick up the car yesterday, ,the check engine light is on, i figure it was just because they tripped the sensor. I was driving back and my wife calls me (she was following in her saturn) andf she said it was blowing smoke, so i pulled over and had her jump in and rev the engine a few times and there was a little bit of white smoke but it cleared up in a few minuts. (white not blue smoke)

i figured it had something to do with the fact the fuel cutoff was tripped and the car sat for a day with no gas in the feul delivery system. Whatever

i drive home and at first the car just diddnt seem to have the same pep, but i wanted to run it for a few and see what happened and by the time i got home she was back to her old self lighting up the wheels.

I grab my predator and plug in and sure enough, there was a code showing that stated along the lines of "Manually reset fuel cutoff relay" Cool, that is what i expected,. I cleared the code and ran 2-3 errands and the car was running just fine and the code did not reappear.

So, TODAY, i hop in my car to run to the ATM, first time driving it since around midnight last night. I start her up, she fires up fine, i back up out of the garage and into the street and she starts sputtering, i put her in park and rev it a couple times and i got some hesitation and it eventually got going again just fine. My wife said she saw a big cloud of black smoke, goddamnit.

so i have her rev the engine and sure enough there was some black smoke coming out. Heavy at first then it quickly cleared up.

Is this to be expected if my fuel system ran dry because of the sensor being tripped and the car sitting for a while with no fuel in the lines? Maybe this is excess carbon being burned up? The white smoke has not returned.

any idears? my car is not throwing any codes.

Hey jack, they may have had to battery disconected for a long period of time and the ECM lost its memory. I would start the car up without touching the gas and let it idle for 30 mins. This will relearn the ECM. If this doesn't do it I would change the fuel filter, and check for ant signs of water. Do all the easy and cheap stuff first. Good luck.

Well i let the wife take it to work so it could sit in her parking lot with a for sale sign (she works in a rich area) and she diddnt have any issues, i think they probably ran it untill it died from lack of gas and let it sit for a while before they figured it out.

My thoughtst too. ECM got cleared as they prolly had the battery off, now it is running rich. It should clear-up quick though.
