I just installed a new motor with BBK LTs and a matching h-pipe. However my exhaust after the h-pipe is still stock. Since the two are different sizes I now have an exhaust leak. Is there a gasket/adapter that could be used? Anybody else have this issue?

Buying a new exhaust is not an option and neither is cutting the connectors off.

 

Stock is 2.5" and I'm pretty sure the BBK h-pipe is as well. I'm assuming the leak is at the ball and socket is from mid-pipe to muffler. If the pipe sizes are the same, just put some high temp RTV on the connection. If it turns out that one pipe is bigger than 2.5", you got to go to an exhaust shop to reduce it to 2.5".

 

seal it if you can...if not...a cat-back is pretty cheap...save yur pennies.

 

i thought stock was 2 1/4" ?

 

I can tell you the hpipe is 2.5" and I think the stock exhaust is 2.25". The leak is at the ball and stocket. You can see a gap. I'm just hoping that I can fill the gap with something and not have to cut it or anything like that.

 

yea thats what i thought..i dont know why exactly you have a gap at all...you should be able to switch the midpipe out with stock cat back without any problems, i mean it would be no different then if you left the stock midpipe and bought a new cat back, yea the new cat back woudl be bigger but it would bolt right up and its the same story with an o/r midpipe

 

That's a good point. Maybe the two are misaligned or maybe I didn't tighten it down enough. I will check it out this weekend.

 

I'm pretty sure the stock catback on SN95's are 2.5" while some Foxes (not sure if all) had 2.25".

 

actually now that i think back a little bit, i bought my slp LMII's used from a guy on another forum they were 2.5" inlet/outlet and when i went to the muffler shop to have them welded in they ended up having to cut my stock mufflers off(obviously) and then use a merge pipe to merge to 2 different size pipes. so now that i remembered that im certain stock is 2.25 on 96-04's

 

Stock is 2.25.

 

I was going to say try to tighten it more. I'm not sure why you did lt's without a catback.

 

I've already spent a but load on of money in building my new engine. It didn't even cross my mind that the new h-pipe would be 2.5" and the biggest reason why I can't get one is because my wife and I are expecting your first baby in less than a month.

 

The best thing for you to do is to buy the Flowmaster 2.5"-2.25" ball and socket connection and have a muffler chop the old ones off and put the news ones on. But, if you're tight on cash, surrond the joint w/ exhaust band-aids like there's no tommorow.
