H-pipe noise

H-pipe noise
Hey I have a 2003 gt with a flowmaster exhaust and I was wondering if an o/r h-pipe would be too loud for a daily driver, or if there is a large amount of droning at higher speeds. all help is appreciated.

off road H's and flows sound tinny and hollow. drone is considerable at high loads and low rpm. I really couldn't take the drone after a while and switched to a non-resonator type muffler. Much happier now.

ya it will help big time.. I had Borla Stingers with Offroad X, and it gave me a headache and my ears would start to hurt after a while, so for HEALTH reasons I switched back to catted x and its a lot better... but I do miss how loud it was and scaring people and setting off every single car's car alarm when I go by, but its my daily driver and I couldn't take the sound, it got to the point were Id drive to work with my father until I got my catted x pipe on lol..

Dude, he really needs to go with something else besides magnapacks. They pop like a damn popcorn popper. My LM II's sound MUCH better than magnapacks in my opinion.

its not just that I get serious MIGRAINE headaches.. were I throw up, get dizzy and get blurred vision it sucks... only way I can get rid of them is if I take a nap..

ditto. I get em too. Driving home from work nauseated with a blinding headache and a loud interior resonating exhaust sucks big hairy donkey nutz. no bwaynoh.
Some magnaflow's, borlas, bassani's or similar muffs will sound really good with or without cats (cats are milder and you SHOULD use cats just on principle).

It is all preference. I have a MAC O/R Prochamber on my car as a DD. It is loud, but not too bad. Luckily my LM II's dont drone with it too much. It drones around 1700-1900 RPM, but I have 4.10 gears and I turn about 2400 on the Highway and it has no drone at that RPM. You will notice a power increase on the but dyno.

haha..no gears have nothing to do w/ sound

Gears in a sense help out with drone. With stock gears, you will be turning about 1700-1800 RPM on the highway (65-70 mph). 4.10's will bring you out of the drone rpms (1700-1900) while on the highway. Something about those rpms creates a low bass sound frequency that is referred to as "drone." Imagine if you were listening to a subwoofer at low frequency. The low frequencies are much harder on your ears and "drony" than when if were at a a higher frequency. The 4.10's cause your motor to spin at a higher rpm (on the highway) which creates a higher frequency of sound.

drone is almost universally gone by 2200rpm. I've had lots of exhausts and they would all drone a little but none above 2200rpm. So yeah... 4.10's will keep you out of the drone zone since it's pretty hard to be under 2000rpm but still under load. Avoid high loads + low speeds + high gears. That combo is the basic formula for drone so if you're at a low speed in a high gear, downshift.
